Intro :)

Hello. I signed up for this today but have not had my consultation yet. It's supposed to be next week..but if I'm this nervous before the first step ....good golly.
I know I'm probably jumping the gun..I usually do.

I am currently at my highest weight being over 400 lbs. With new medical issues my doctor recommended this as an option. I don't know much at all about the process but am trying to learn as much as I can.

Anyway this group seems like a good source of information and support.

I was very nervous at first. In fact I started this process about 3 years ago but chickened out. I kept trying to lose weight by dieting. I gained a huge amount of weight in that 3 years and recognized the scales would just continue to increase. I knew I needed help. I had the gastric bypass about 9 weeks ago and I’m thankful I did. I’m not losing as much weight as fast as I had hoped but at least the scales are finally going down instead of up. I’ve never heard of anyone saying they regret the surgery. Hang in there.

Good luck to both of you. The surgery , which ever one you get seems so intimidating and scary. But yet seems like something that has to be done at least to me.

Hi Sheilakaye. I just joined as well and my surgery is about a month out. I've done all the pre-op stuff and will meet with the surgeon tomorrow to decide which procedure I'll have. I struggle greatly with second thoughts. I'm curious which aspect is making you nervous. Personally I'm not concerned about the surgery at all. I'm concerned that I won't like my body after I lose weight because of excess skin. You didn't mention your age. I'm 64 and have had this extra 100 lbs on me for nearly 10 years. So I know the extra skin will be an issue. What settles my nerves is the fact that every single person I've spoken to (5 or 6) have said, when asked, that they would absolutely do it again and that they just wish they'd done it sooner. Another thing that has helped me is visualizing the things that will improve for me after the surgery. I was super nervous before my first meeting. By now you've had your first meeting and I'm wondering how you feel about things? I'd love to hear.

I've had two of the weight appts and met with the psych doctor who cleared me. My next is the surgeon to see if I'm medically cleared. I guess that is what I'm most nervous about. I am 41 years old and have quite a few health issues so I'm afraid they will say it's a no go ... It feels like this is a last option for me and if they no go it I don't know where to go or how long I will be able to stay out of a wheelchair.
I'm hoping to feel better after the next appt in september
