Hello all!
It has been a while since I posted on my progress, but I recently reached a milestone that reminded to to come here and share with all of you. Sometimes I feel guilty, because you were all there for me after my surgery and I feel like I have kind of dropped off the map. But the reality is that my life has changed dramatically over the last 12 months, and I am living a wonderful life!
I got married on October 12, 2019, one year ago last Monday, and I weighed 348 lbs. Here is a picture from my wedding, (and yes I know how lucky I am to have married such a beautiful woman!)
On January 22, 2020 I had gastric sleeve surgery.
Last Monday was my 1 year anniversary, and my wife and I were on a business trip in Rhode Island and we got this photo, a perfect 1 year to-the-day before and after photo:
I thought this was an excellent opportunity to share with everyone how grateful I am for my surgery, and the life changes it has driven for me! Today I am down 118 lbs, 272 days after my surgery! (I have a day counter on my phone!)
I also wanted to say how much grattitude I have for this group, and all of you who helped me through those first several months after my surgery. I had one month of a liquid diet, and one month of a puree diet after that. I don't know if I could have done it without this group.
Today, my diet has mostly normalized. I can eat many of the same things I used to eat, but in much smaller portions. Some things I cannot eat... rice being a big one, very spicy or acidic foods are others. I haven't drank anything carbonated in 273 days! Alcohol is problematic, especially in anything more than very small doses. And alcohol mixed with sugar (mixed cocktails) make me very sick to my stomach.
My body tells me when I have over done it, or eaten the wrong thing. I have found that my stomach "spasms" when I do that, and I have found that a warm corn bag on my stomach helps tremendously.
My weight loss has slowed significantly the last couple of months. Here is a chart of my weight loss since the surgery. I use a bluetooth equipped scale and an app on my phone to track my progress:
I am hoping to lose another 5 lbs in the next 3-4 weeks, and if I do that I will reach my ultimate goal weight (223 lbs, or a loss of 125 lbs). When I reach that goal, I plan to reward myself by going skydiving.
To all of you that have been here the past year and supported me, from the bottom of my heart (and the heart of my substantially smaller bottom!) THANK YOU! You are an amazing group of courageous and tenacious people. You have sooo much to be proud of, I know that I am proud of my journey.
To all of you who have a procedure coming, have recently had one, or have suffered a set back, KEEP GOING! You will find a way to succeed and have a healthy happy life! Lean on this group, these are great people who have gone through what you are going through!
I hope to be here more often, but in case I get pulled too much into life, feel free to contact me directly at cyxelsid@gmail.com, if you have any questions, or just need to chat.
Thanks, and I love you all!
Phil
