Lap Band conversion to Gastric Bypass - New Member

Hi,

Between a slightly slipped band and a hiatial hernia, it was time for corrective surgery to a gastric bypass. My surgery was last Wednesday, and so far, so good. The scar tissue was more than expected causing complications. The struggle at present: there's some nagging pain behind the incision where the stapler was used. Surprisingly I'm not struggling with the liquid diet, but then again it's only day 8.

Any tips from the veterans out there? Inspirational stories? Ideas for the nagging pain?

Thank you!
Trish

Welcome, Trish. And I'm happy to send my greetings from the hippest town in the Northwest to the hippest town in the Southwest.

So, did you have a revision from a lap band to roux-en-y surgery? Or did you have the duodenal switch? Was it a laparoscopic procedure?

Because I was asked by some new members, I consolidated a bunch of early posts of mine to share with them. This may not apply to you as much, because I had an open procedure. I had a long recovery because it was major because it was major surgery.

You should check out people's profiles, too because some members include photos and stories.

Here's one more story from me:
Hi Diane - Thanks for the warm welcome! I had lap band surgery in 2012, but the band failed (slipped, etc...). On 6/12/19 I had my band removed and a gastric bypass done (roux-en-y). It was laprascopic except foe the most part.

Hi Trish. Welcome. I am a fairly new comer too. I have not had my surgery yet but just wanted to send a welcome.
Diane saying coolest city in the Southwest got me curious, so I see where you are from. I am originally from Victoria but I have lived in Louisiana for almost 20 years.
I sure hope your pain gets some relief soon.

I can only speak for myself. But I still had some restriction when they removed band and did the gastric bypass. My point is, although I wasn’t losing any weight with the band, I still couldn’t eat a big amount of food. I am probably eating about 50% less than I was. It took me 6 months to lose 26 pounds before surgery. I had the band removed and gastric bypass on 4/2/19 and have lost 31 more pounds. I was hoping the weight loss would be faster and easier, but I will continue to succeed! It’s always interesting to read other people’s stories, but don’t forget we are all different, we all have different surgeons and we all have different starting points. One of the other group members lost 31 pounds in 3 weeks. We can’t always compare our journeys. Good luck !
