Leak after gastric sleeve

Hi all,
I’m new here. I’m looking for help and advise.
I had surgery on October 17, 2019. I went home the next day. I ran a fever on the way home. I told the doctor, but they said it wasn’t high enough to be significant. I ran a fever every time I moved around and call my doctors office to let them know. I was never asked to come back in for a check. Ten days later I thought I was having a heart attack, my left shoulder hurt. I went to the emergency room. They did a cat scan, it turned out to be a leak where my staple line is. It had formed a pocket outside my stomach. I was lucky that it stayed in the pocket and did not burst. I was sent by ambulance to the hospital I had my sleeve surgery. I naturally thought that I would go back into surgery and get it fixed. It was to inflamed. There I stayed for the next five days. I now have a picc line in my right arm and a drain under my left arm. Everyday I am hooked up to TPN for 14 hours. I constantly have to empty my drain and keep track of the output. This has now gone on for over six weeks. Which means nothing by mouth. Other than a sip of water when I take a pill. I was on antibiotics for four weeks. I am truly miserable. I feel like a prisoner in my own home. On top of that, TPN cost about a thousand dollars a day. I can’t work, I’m a flight attendant, I can’t go to work toting bags of TPN, and a drain and iv lines hanging out. I know I’m feeling sorry for myself.
I would really like to hear other people’s stories about complications and how you handled them.
Thanks for reading

My goodness, I'm so sorry! I hope you start feeling better soon. And I totally agree with Diane that you should speak with a lawyer. Even if you don't pursue anything, get everything documented in case of future problems.

Welcome to the group. Please keep us updated on your progress.

I'm so sorry this has happened to you. I don't know what your insurance situation is. But I would certainly go to another surgeon ASAP, and see what they can do to help you. Six weeks is way too long to be doing this, trapped in your house. And I agree with the others who mentioned the counsel of an attorney. But just keep in mind that surgeons are used to being sued, and they are well prepared for it. So make sure you get a lawyer that really knows their stuff regarding this. Try to find one who practices specifically in weight-loss surgical errors.
