Welcome, Christine. The pre-op diet is simply a tool to help you prepare. How well you adhered to it won't affect your post-op success. However, it would be beneficial to you and your success to start tracking your eating, studying nutritional content and even developing some meal plans for when you come home. To really help you a lot, you might want to do a lot of shopping that will include pantry items that will be at hand, so you don't have one extra step to burden you. You might be worn out or have low energy, or even some pain and discomfort as you recover, so make it really easy on yourself.

I think we all struggle with adapting to a new diet, and a lot of that struggle is in your head, and your "fat brain" will keep wanting to eat like you've been eating for years. Try not to worry or let obsessions drive you. The surgery isn't magic and you're going to feel a lot of intense feelings as your life changes. But you CAN do it.

I used to have a whole lot of information on my profile page listing my research on nutrition, but our host has removed a lot of stuff and I can't find them. One really valuable resource for me was the FDA website, which had nutritional breakdowns of virtually every type of food, including brand-name items.

I just searched and couldn't find any of my old posts with links. And I'm looking at the FDA site as well, and it's very complicated. So much stuff has happened since I signed on 20 years ago. But you might ask your medical team if they know of any online resources. If you get any good referrals, please come back and share them!

Here are some good results I got by searching for "food journal:" Help I think journaling is the most important tool available to us.

Best of luck to you.
