New and lost....

Hello, as of tomorrow I am a month post op. I feel my body is foreign. I smell differently, gas, barley can eat (tried fish and it didnt work well) and remembering sip sip sip which is hard cause I only used to drink with a straw and now I cant. I have went through the bit of depression and now started taking little walks to build up my strength. Just in a couple more weeks I will be able to try more foods. I have found this forum already helpful nice to know I am not alone.

Thanks all ...

Denise

Welcome to the forum Denise and congraulations on your surgery. Your appetite will pick up in a couple of weeks. Don't be surprised if you can't tolerate some of the foods you will be allowed to have. It can take longer than what the meal plan shows for you to be able to tolerate certain things. You may also find you no longer like some foods that you ate before surgery. This is perfectly normal. You need to listen to what your new tiny pouch is telling you. I can tolerate tuna with some lite mayo but I can't eat baked, broiled or poached fish yet even though I chew the heck out of it. I can tolerate a mosit scrambled egg but not a plain boiled egg. The key is to eat MOIST soft food chewed very well and eaten very slowly. Stop eating if you think you are full otherwise you won't like what happens next *LOL* It might take a few trys to get this right. For now just keep sipping your fluids and get your protein in with shakes until you can eat food.

Take GasEx for the gas and use an OTC lactaze enzyme if your gas is coming from dairy products. I use both daily and it helps a lot.

Hi Denise, Welcome. Your doing great on your weight loss. I remeber how hard it was the first couple of months, the craziest part was wanting solid food and not being hungry then eating just a few bites and being full, my appatite came back after a year but I can only eat small meals and that is just fine with me:D Pat is spot on with her advice. I liken it to learning how to eat all over again. I think walking was on thing that really helped me out, even though I was tired all the time I still got out and did some walking everyday and two years later I enjoy the thing that used to be a chore. Let us know how you are doing. Tom
