Hi I live in the 252 area of NC, and I am almost 24yrs old. I recently found out that I have 2 completely ruptured discs in my spine and degenerative disc disease. The surgeon doesnt want to perform surgery until I lose most of my weight. I am 5'8" or 9" and I CURRENTLY weigh about 315lbs. I have 2 children and while I have never been "THIN" I am the largest by any means I have ever been. I have tried every TV, BOOK, CHEF, ETC DIET! I have also taken prescription appetite suppressants (even though I already have trouble eating atleast one GOOD meal a day). I have an appointment on 6/14 to see my regular physician again. I am hoping we can finally get this process started. Can anyone give some advice, tips, any input at all will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Sundai, Welcome. I am sorry to about your ruptured discs and degenerative disc disease, that must be painful:(. We have all struggled with our weight here. This is a wonderful journey, it can be an emotional rollercoaster at times but it is well worth it, I wouldn't change a thing. Write down questions as you think of them, my doctor gave me a referal to a seminar which is what got the ball rolling for me, when I talked to my doctor I just wanted to see if it was right for me because I had been thinking about it for a while, after the seminar I was convinced that is what I needed to do, the rest all fell into place. You should have plenty of time to think about it and do some homework on the differnt types of weight loss surgery and if you think this is right for you there will be all kinds of steps along the way, such as nutrition classes, psych evals, ekg and an ultra sound, there may be more tests depending the rest of you medical history. Make sure to follow all of the doctors directions. Make sure to come back let us know how you are doing, this is a great place to come for support there are a great group of folks here. Tom
