Hi everyone, like my thread topic states, I am new to the group...my bypass is scheduled for 11/15, super excited and nervous about this life change and new journey! I started this whole process back in April, it was an excellent start: had my 6 months of diet work complete going into my consult, scheduled my psych evaluation and nutrionalist consult before I left, just needed to quit smoking and wait for approval from insurance company. Unfortunately, for 2 months my surgeons office said they were not getting my 6 month dietary letter from my pcp...(they actually got 3 copies of it, but I was told it was not want was needed for insurance) UGH, stress trigger lol! Fell off the wagon and started smoking, very frustrating as I began to think, ok this is just not meant to happen. Thru my insurance, I was required to register thru Optum, they have specialists who handle and walk thru the whole process with you, the nurse who was assigned to me went over what was needed for approval and I relayed that info to my surgeons office. My PCP, spent so much time putting together info, only for me to say...nope they said it needs to be this way lol...UGH, again stress triggers! Out of the blue my surgeons office called me, told me that on a whim she decided to submit the info they had received from my pcp to the insurance company...they APPROVED IT!! I was shocked and excited...and a little upset, knowing I had not quit smoking...now things are moving so quickly, pre op appt scheduled, pre op instructions, 3 post op appts scheduled....and I still need to have my nicotine free blood test done...which means I have to quit smoking! I am struggling...big big big time. Worst part is that I have severe anxiety, this month cannot go by quick enough!!
I have enjoyed reading thru posts, it has helped ease my mind a little this morning - look forward to being supportive and being supported - blessings to all!

It will be here before you know it. I have complete faith you can do it. I'm 11 days post surgery. It has gone by so fast now.
Congratulations and I know you can do it

Welcome! And congrats on the surgery date! Many of us in here are former smokers, so we understand the struggle you are going through. But you've got this! It sounds like this is something you have thought long and hard about so I am sure you have the drive to stay committed to not smoking. If you need to rant instead of picking up a cigarette, we are here for you! Good luck with everything and let us know how your journey progresses. :)
