Hey everyone. I am on my 3rd go with trying to have weight loss surgery. The first time, I couldn't quit smoking. The second time, I couldn't stick to the plan and do the exercise. Now, I have officially quit smoking (as of 09/15/19) and I have realized I need a community. My husband was going to do this with me, but he cannot quit smoking, so I am a big girl in a big family with a lot of spoken support, but no "I'll stop buying chips because it will help you." support. I am looking for a community of people I can go to, talk to, and have them know what I am going through, to give and receive support, because goodness knows, I need it. Especially now, when our support groups are all closed because of Covid-19.

Welcome!! I think it’s great that you’re seeking out support. I’ll have my surgery in a few months. When I told my family they were very supportive. My mom did ask what I was going to do about the holidays. I told her, “Food.” LOL I explained that I would be choosing high protein foods and veggies. I guess she was surprised I wouldn’t be eating everything through a straw. My husband supports me. I am the grocery shopper for my house, so I buy what I need, and I buy what my family wants, but we’re pretty big on veggies and fruits in my house. I’m the only obese one in the house. I know I’ll have to have willpower, and yeah, there will be times when that is tested. However, before I put anything in my mouth I have to ask if it’s worth it. But the reality is that there will be struggles because I know I have an eating disorder. If/when you see the counselor, you could ask how to talk to your family about how they can support you more. Even going on walks with your husband would be great if that’s something you can do where you live.
