hello everyone im new here. just wanted to say hi. dont have my surgery date yet im on my lossing days. before my liquid diet.

hi there. your the only one to say hi so far. im having the gastric by-pass i think. whats the difference between the to.

The lap band is where they band off part of your stomach to make a small opening and adjust it over a period of weeks or months until you get down to a an optimal calorie and protien intake. The Gastric sleve and Roux n Y (RnY) srgery are done laproscopacally but are a little more intrusive but do not involve putting a band in your stomach. I had the RnY, that is where they bypass the stomach and re route it into the intestines but allow the stomach fluids to also flow into the intestines allowing for better digetstion (I think), it leaves a pouch about the size of an egg to hold the food. I am very happy with my surgery and have lost over about 120 lbs and feel great. Look on the main forum page and near the bottom there is a page that describes the whole proceedure.

Where are you getting the surgery done, have you gone to a seminar or have you been refered by your doctor and just started the journey. I started on my journey when I went into the doctor and had gained another 15 lbs since my regular 6 month visit for my check ups for my medicine, my doctor asked me what I wanted to do because she could chart a steady rise over the past 5 years and I told her I was thinking about weight loss surgery so she refered me to the seminar and the rest fell into place. I am off the high bloodpressure and cholesterol meds and feel great now. Let me know what you think after you check out the differnt procedures. Tom

Welcome to the forum gizmo. I just had my surgery last Monday, 2/27 so I'm just now catching up on new posts. What part of the country are you from? Make sure you come back to the forum to let everyone know how you are doing and let us know your surgery date when you get one.

hi GIZMO, welcome to this site, I a new here too, but everyone has been so kind, they answer ? and share there story, sound's like you've got all your homework done and our on your way to getting your surgery. Have you got a date yet? have you decieded which procedure you would like? I am still waiting for a surgery date and praying it's in april, I'd gladly take sooner if that were on option.
Take care
Donna
