Hello. I’ve just signed up with this group. I may be getting my surgery date soon, so I’m getting nervous. Nervous about how I’m going to get through surgery because I’m on regular blood thinners. This will be my first surgery while being on this medication. I’m nervous about how I’ll feel after surgery, both physically and emotionally. I’m glad I have family that supports me and loves me.
I am looking forward to seeing myself for the first time in my life and learn to love myself.

Welcome! I had to start blood thinners after the surgery, I’m almost done with them. Your surgical team will help navigate your need for blood thinners. I needed the shots because I have a genetic predisposition for them, but I only need the shots for 30 days. Which surgery are you having? I think a lot of people going through this are nervous about how they’ll feel after the surgery. I had my gallbladder out at the same time as my bypass, and that’s really where my discomfort came from most of the time. Emotionally, that really depends on the person. I haven’t been too emotional, maybe a little bummed about not being able to indulge in holiday treats, but honestly, that’s part of what lead me to need weight loss surgery in the first place. I can’t just blame a few treats here or there, I know what got me here and what I want out of the surgery. I focus on the positives, what’s in my control, and how I can be successful.

Hi PlsSee - welcome to the group!

Your surgical team will tell you when to stop certain medications before surgery. Being nervous before anything of this nature is very normal.

How you feel after surgery will depend on you. Follow the plan your surgical team has in place for you. Whenever you have questions, comments, or concerns - call your surgical team. They are there for you. The only silly/stupid question is the one we don't ask.

It's wonderful that you have a support system in place as well! They can be extremely helpful with the process.

In my experience - the surgery was a wonderful tool to getting my life going in a healthier me direction. It's also helped my family to start eating healthier, spending time exercising together - even if its just taking our herd of Aussies for a walk.

Best of luck on this new life altering journey! You SO GOT this!!

Welcome to our group! That is good to hear that your family is supportive. I'm sure your surgeon will go over your particular needs such as blood thinners and anything else. If he/she doesn't bring it up, then certainly voice your concerns with the doctor. And feel free to ask questions here, we have people at all stages of the process and even those who had their surgeries done years ago.
