New just saying Hi

Hello everyone,
I am new but have been lurking around learning for a few months. My name is Sharon and I am 64 years old in Dallas, Texas. I had the sleeve last October, doing ok with the weight loss (around 72 lbs) but don't feel all that great, but look much better. I think it may be the eating/drinking timing although I am not really sure. My appetite is really low most of the time, so grateful for that. I am now 9lbs from my goal of 150 lbs., my goal did fluctuate 5lbs so I was ok with a goal of 155 too.
The group is fantastic, I have learned so much from you all and also enjoyed seeing your new pictures as they appear. I am encouraged by the results you all have obtained.
I have one weird thing to chat about. I noticed some hair loss but I have had thin hair like my Mom so I was not really surprised.
What did surprise me is that my arms and legs have NO HAIR AT ALL. Other body hair is there. I guess I won't complain about the lack of maintenance my legs will need this summer, although I usually cover up because of bug bites. Has anyone notice that type of hair loss ?
I love to garden and my yard is looking beautiful. I do what I call a "seed extravaganza" and throw thousands of flower seeds. They went in before our last frost and are just starting but will be super colorful and pleasant in a little while. I added some instant color with hanging baskets and raised planters (keeps my big dog from ruining my plants if they are too close to his aim).
Hope to continue to share with you all,
Sharon

Welcome fun place this is. Great people with lots of positive input. If you have a question someone has input. They do suggest to speak with your team from surgery. Which is best in the long run. Today I saw a suggestion for bariastric app and I am checking it out. I need better food logging per doc. Be fun and be safe.

Welcome!! I’m jealous of the type of hair loss you’re having LOL I’m still losing hair on my head, but no where else. I love gardening! I’m getting ready to start my big annual flower garden for pollinators, and my buckets for herbs and bell peppers. We’ve got a large vegetable garden that we’ll start in a few weeks after the frost date.

Welcome Sharon! Glad you decided to say hello. That is wonderful that you are so close to your goal. You said you aren't feeling great. Have you had your 6 month labs done yet? Being deficient in something can effect how we feel. Your flower extravaganza sounds amazing! You'll have to treat us with a photo when it is in bloom. Still too cold in New York for planting unfortunately. Every time we get a tease of a warm spell it is tempting but we know all to well that a freeze can still come.

Hi, Sharon. Welcome to the group. I am sorry to hear that you're not feeling so well although I am very, very jealous of the hair free legs!! With all this wrinkly, loose skin on my knees, shaving is getting dangerous! o_O What a great idea to just sort of throw the flower seeds out there and see what you get. I pretty much have a black thumb so I might try this in the hopes that I could get a decent batch of flower for a change lol

Welcome, Sharon. Did you have a lot of hair before surgery?

I haven't shaved my legs for years. I once noticed my mom never shaved, so I asked her about it. The short answer for us was that this was our family's version of going bald. It happened over time below my waist, as well.

There are a lot of reasons people lose hair, including simple aging. Consider yourself blessed!

Congratulations on your positive decisions to change your life! And thank you for enhancing our group with your presence.
Hi Diane,
Funny how I feel like I know you all after reading about your journeys. Appreciate the warm welcome, which I totally expected.
You are spot on, I never really shaved, I Naired most of the hair on my legs to death since my teens. I made too many cuts with razors.
I was always pretty light as far as hair, now I look like a newborn. I am pretty happy about the legs too and I will save money and time on Nair!
Glad to hear I am not the only one, wish the head hair would start to come back in but I don't know if it will. I watched a video that I think Judy posted about Hair Loss from one of the major bariatric centers in Kansas City(or St Louis) and they sounded hopeful that it is a matter of time.
I am also really happy about getting close to my goal, it has been HARD!

I did have the Labs, mostly normal, little low on K+ but taking a supplement for that and Iron. The vitamins were ok too. Doctor felt like some little variations I had were just post op stuff that is actually improving over time. I had some extra labs that were fine too (at the ER when I was sick last couple of weeks), plus a CT and other goodies.

I stretched and did some asparagus and strawberries in a cute raised planter bed I call my strawberry patch. No doggies watering cause it is waist high, Amazon is great for cool stuff like that, of course I had to assemble it which is always an adventure for me. I love a veggie garden but I don't have a separate fenced are to keep my boys (canine boys) out of it. One of my favorite things was growing cantaloupe, really easy and they taste great. I may need to think of a solution so I can grow them again. Will share pics when I get my first flowers.

Glad to hear your labs were good Sharon. I've had my eye on a waist high planter bed, maybe it is the same that you are talking about. My favorite is home grown tomatoes. They are the best! Years ago I grew strawberries in one of the pyramid beds but now everything has to be raised up to keep the dogs out! I was out weeding my flower beds today. Felt good to get in the dirt. I haven't done that in a long time! Chalking that up to losing weight and therefore being more mobile!
