Hi everyone My name is Melissa.... I had RNY in 2004.. started at 389.. the lowest I got to was 183.. even then I still saw myself as fat because I was still in obese category. Of course losing over 200 pounds like everyone said was amazing.. yet I could not see it.. All I could see is well - goal weight should be about 150.. heck I would be happy with 175! Then I had two more pregnancies.. gained up to 220.. lost down to 207.. and then injured my back.. now I am in limbo between 210 and 215.. I gain and lose the same 5 pounds no matter what I do..I worked my butt off at the gym plus hiking.. not to mention I live off of protein shakes, because food makes me sick. I cannot sit down really and have a meal..So my calories are always under 1000 - most days they actually are only about 500. yet, still cannot lose.. I feel like the biggest failure...I did change my surgeons - as my original got a big head.. The other did an upper GI about a year ago, and said that the exit of my pouch is extended - but no worries, just eat a medeterainian (sp) diet..really it seems nothing works..

Hate feeling like such a fat butt failure.. :(

Looking at getting to know everyone...

Hi Melissa, sorry to hear you've had such a hard time. My name is Tom, I am about 2 years out, no compications to speake of. Maybe you have heard it before but I have heard something about the 5 day pouch test, Letrell has talked about it on here before, she is also a member on this site, try an instant message to her, she always has a lot of good info. Your not a failure you have lost a lot of weight had two children and still managed to keep most of it off. Keep working with a nutritionalist. I still look in the mirror and think I am fat, which I guess by medical standards I still am, but I feel healthy and I am much slimmer than I was 120 lbs ago. If you have strugled with weight most of your life like most of us then it is just how we see our selves, at least in my case, but others have told me the same. Welcome to the site, I look forward to chatting with you to see how things are going. Take care. Tom

Melissa-Welcome to the forum. First off, congratulations on your weight loss, 176 pounds GONE. I’m sorry you are feeling like you failed because you are not at your goal weight but look at how far you have come since 2004, over 7 years ago. I wish I only weighed 213 pounds. My RNY is scheduled for 2/27/12 and I can only imagine losing 176 pounds at this point.

I think you are doing great Melissa. I noticed that you said most days you are at 500 calories which leads me to this question. Have you met with a bariatric dietitian lately? Your low caloric intake may be a contributing factor in not being able to lose weight. When we do not consume enough calories over an extended time period our bodies help us to prevent starving by going into a much lower metabolic rate. When this happens we can even gain weight on a very low calorie diet. Please make an appointment with a medical professional to discuss your concerns.

Make sure you come back to visit here often and let us know how you are doing.
