New to group old bypass surgery. Magnesium

I’ve found that my magnesium isn’t being absorbed. Had some hospital visits and bloodwork showed magnesium depleted. B12 too. But I can get a shot for that. Anybody else had this problem and found a fix??

I guess they don't check for all vitamins and minerals with blood work? I am kinda new, I actually go next week for my first round of blood work.
What are the side effects of magnesium depletion?
