New to Group Staring the Gastric Sleeve Process

I guys, my name is Carl and I am approved for the Gastric Sleeve. Going this Thursday for pre-surgery approvals with: Nutritionist, Pschy, Cardio Stress Test, Pulmonologist and Endoscopy. Anticipate surgery in October based on work commitments. My BMI is 70 weight is 445, goal is 220. I am excited and very nervous. I have been overweight my entire life and need to make a change. I no medical issues other than diverticulitis and aching knees/Back from being overweight.
I have a god friend who had the surgery a few years back and he is looking/doing great.
I am looking for support during this process, my nerves are getting the better of me.
Thanks-Carl

Congrats Carl! I am new to this too and will be having the sleeve done in about 5 months, I have to be monitored for 6 months before surgery! I am at or was at my heaviest at 330 lbs I have lost 15lbs in 3 weeks giving up caffeine, diet sodas and all white carbs! So I know you’ve got this! I too have been heavy all my life.

It's good that you found this site and great that you have a buddy that can coach you through it! I've only lost 50 lbs so far but I can tell you that my knees haven't felt this good for a long time!

I had gastric sleeve surgery on July 1. i’ve struggled with weight and eating my entire life but I have never felt so hopeful and happy about my ability to beat this. The first week was very rough post surgery, I struggled with a LOT of emotions and all fluids was very hard for me. But not even in my lowest moments or strongest cravings since July 1 have I ever regretted his decision. I am so thankful this option was available to me. I’m 20 pounds down, and I have so much hope for the future. My cravings are nowhere near what they were before surgery. Getting enough protein and fluids seems to be absolutely essential to my ability to lose weight. For me it seems to be less about calories versus the quality of my calories, protein is my new best friend. This is tricky on soft foods but I get more options starting next Tuesday. This group is wonderful and so encouraging, welcome!

Hiya Dee. I'm happy to read that you're doing so well. Your positive attitude is inspiring. :)

Another thing to note is I am only able to eat 500 to 650 cal a day. Nothing else will fit and I’m completely satisfied most days. I really have to get enough protein in order to manage cravings though. My doctors goal is 80 a day.

We all understand the nerves. My RNY is in a week and I feel like I did when I was having my first baby, nesting and getting the house in order, LOL
You can do this and as time goes on and you accept the decision you have made, you will feel more at ease with it.
Stay strong and keep us updated.

Hello, I started this process about 10 years ago, & chickened out. I am now ready. I attended the 'information seminar' last week. I dropped off the 'medical release of information' forms to 3 of my Dr's today, and I see Psych next week for the evaluation. I take care of my mom, so getting to the support group which is almost 2 hours away from me is very difficult. Looking at the feeds I believe this online support will be very helpful. My surgeon emphasizes that good support is critical to success. In addition, to a support group, he wants me to bring a support person with me to a "Family appointment." I don't really have anyone. Not sure how to deal with that requirement. Right now, I am jumping through the hoops to fulfill the requirements of both the surgeon & insurance.
