Hi, Trisha. Welcome to the group. I think you've found exactly what you're looking for in this group. And I think it's great that you found a support group pre-surgery. For a while after surgery, I wasn't really hungry and didn't have cravings for things. For me personally, I don't crave the things that I haven't eaten. I loved, Loved, LOVED cheetos pre-surgery. I have had them once and .. eh. So I don't miss them or eat them.
That being said, there is a homemade soft serve ice cream shop down the street. We hit them up pretty regularly. And so, I've been wanting some all week. Sugar causes cravings. If you avoid it, you won't crave it. If you hit up the ice cream shop, you're going to be waiting for your next ice cream fix. So you'll decide after surgery, what foods you're willing to mostly give up and those that you will keep. And then you'll have to decide how much and how often you'll allow yourself your treats.
And many of our cravings are mental anyway. Food isn't inherently bad; the choices we make to overeat them and not choose healthy items is. WLS is great at giving a person a chance to reset their bodies and habits, without hunger hormones telling you you're starving 24/7.
