Hello!

I am 3 weeks post op for a Gastric Sleeve and am having a really tough time. I've been having issues with eating and drinking...I haven't been able to get enough fluids in to keep myself hydrated (due to nausea) and am currently getting IV fluids every other day. I was also originally progressed to the stage 3 part of the diet (soft foods) but have now been instructed to revert back to the stage 2 phase (liquids) due to nausea and vomiting and am feeling very discouraged.

I've gone back to work and have been feeling crappy all the time and leaving early for doctors appointments and whatnot which has been very hard.

Has anyone else had any issues like this post op? Any advice or tips?

Thanks in advance!!

I am so sorry that you are struggling. I personally found the sleeve to be the most challenging healing/post op experience. The nausea is hard when your first inclination is to eat bland things like rice, toast, etc. I did eat crackers during the stage 2 - just watch the sugar content. I personally really like triscuits - low sugar, and one goes a LONG way early on. I would eat about 1/4 of one cracker to help with nausea... really make sure that it is WELL chewed before swallowing. Cream of wheat and oatmeal was a staple for stage 2 as well. I usually would run oats thru the blender or food processor before cooking them to make them more smooth. It gets better - I promise!

Slightly off topic but has anyone found that Barimelts Multivitamin and Calcium pills help with nausea? On a few occasions when not feeling well after I eat I will take my vitamins and calcium and wonder if it is the chalky saliva that coats the stomach and reduces the nausea. Who knows it could just be in my head thinking that it makes me feel better.

Thank you for the support everyone. It's much appreciated :)

I went for more IV fluids yesterday and vomited my protein shake up while there :/ They gave me IV Zofran and a couple hours later I was able to keep a scrambled egg down. They recommended I try drinking clear protein shakes for a while, so I'm going to order some of the Premier ones. Has anyone tried those?

Currently at work trying to sip my water and protein shake after having my morning Zofran as not to get sick at work...

The tropical punch Premier is the best it tastes good I love the clear protein. I am 6 months post-op the nausea comes in waves crackers help sipping versus trying to gulp helps you definitely want to see your surgeon make sure your stomach is okay as well

Thanks! I've definitely been trying to sip instead of gulp. I've noticed that makes me sick. I had a barium swallow done on Tuesday so I know that there's no leakage or anything at least. I have my 1 month follow up with my surgeon on September 16th.

My hubby is on zofran several times a day. He was instructed to take even if he isn't feeling nauseated. He hasn't had any issues. Did they send you home with routine meds for this?

I get nausea very easy, even looking & smelling eggs, which I don't eat but I love a scramble egg w/ cheese . I wish I could eat them. But anywayI take oyster crackers to settle my stomach. They R small. This is before surgery.

As far as protein besides my shakes I find Protein 20 is a good way to get clear liquids down plus 15 gms of protein at same time.
