Oatmeal

Hi friends!

A quick question! With the cold weather coming I have been craving something warm and savory for breakfast. And I need a break from eggs! Yesterday I made a small (1/4 c) serving of rolled oats. I made it with fairlife milk instead of water, to get some protein in. And a bit of cinnamon. It was delicious and hit the spot. Then I wondered though, is oatmeal a slider food? I did feel very satiated after eating it so maybe it’s fine. I am hoping the fiber and general nutrition outweigh the minimal protein. Thoughts?

I'm like you, I like something warm in the morning once the cold weather comes. I'm not much a fan of hot oatmeal though. Strange because I love oats in other things. Do you think it would help to add some blueberries of banana slices to make it a little more filling? I have a cold cereal that I love from Aldi (Pumpkin seed flax) and I always put blueberries in it. I find it very satisfying.

I think slider foods are pretty particular to the person, sometimes. Steel-cut oats are a regular part of my breakfast rotation and have been since pretty early on after surgery. You can add a bit more protein by throwing in some chia seeds and/or hemp hearts, which also adds some fiber, which helps with satiation and gut health.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I have been playing around with recipes and have found that adding some PB fit tastes pretty amazing and ups the protein. I added a few banana slices too (thanks for the suggestion Judy!) and all together it tastes great so I have decided because it’s nutritionally dense I will permit it a few days a week.

lol Anne, I was just going there. I eat oatmeal every morning. I usually eat overnight oats, with bananas and an extra boost of protein powder mixed into a 5 day batch. But as soon as the weather got cooler, I like it warm off the stove. PB fit adds great flavor and a nice boost of protein.

I love oatmeal! I just get the high fiber brown maple sugar packets and add freeze dried strawberries to it. I also have two maple chicken sausages as well for breakfast. This is one of my favorite meals. I’ve never thought of it as a slider food though. It’s on the healthier side and I enjoy it :)
