So I’m 5 weeks post op, and 2 weeks back to work. I’m still not feeling right. I’m having heart palpitations, tremors, some dizziness when standing for short periods. Went in to see my PC doctor. He ran a hold panel of blood work. By blood chemistry all came back normal, but omg my vitamins levels were off the chart. In other words I’m over dosing on vitamins. My potassium level it at a critical low. Which it causing the heart palpitations and the tremors. One of my blood pressure meds also had a diuretic in it also pulled water. My body it a mess.
So they had me stop taking my vitamins until Sunday, changed my blood meds, and I have to drink this potassium stuff once a day. I also got some bananas.
Cut back on my protein drinks, they upped my diet to solids.
You can get to much of a good thing.Believe me. I’m taking an other week off until I’m feeling a little more stable.
I’m still glad I had this surgery done. My body just need to adapt.o_O

Wow lady, sorry to hear you're having these issues. I'm glad you took it seriously and went to your doctor. Taking a week to get readjusted sounds really smart.

I've also been really low on potassium since surgery but unlike you, had no symptoms. They discovered it through my post-op bloodwork. I guess normal potassium level is between 3.5-5, but I was only at 3.0 at 3 months and then down to 2.7 at 6 months. They started me on a prescription immediately since it's dangerous for your heart. I have to have more bloodwork done next week to find out if it's improved with the prescription, fingers crossed. I hope the drink your doctor prescribed brings your level back to normal quickly!

Right now my level is 3.2 Should be 3.5.5. I have an appointment with my bariatric nutritionists on Monday. So he can go over my labs also and the advice my PC give me.
My goal this week off, it to get my levels in normal range. My weight loss had stalled for now. Really have been able to exercise. I hope your levels are improving.

Yeah, I think after surgery, it's fairly normal for our bodies to have some deficiencies, that's why we need bloodwork so often in the beginning. Between the stress of the surgery on our bodies, not eating much and the malabsorption factor, it seems almost a given that levels of something or another would be low.

I'm sorry you've had some bad symptoms, I've been lucky. I hope you start feeling better soon and that your appt goes well Monday. Please keep us posted, I'm sure there will be others in our situation so the more info we have, the better. :) I'll go get my bloodwork Monday so I know where I stand by mid-week. :)

Sorry everything has been all wonky for you but that is great that you are getting it back on track! I go to the dr tomorrow for my 1 month follow up and have to have my potassium levels checked again because I was at 3.4 when I left the hospital. I had to drink that potassium drink when I was still there. Not great but not as horrible as the nurses made it out to be. Keep taking it easy and let your body adjust. You will get to your new normal soon!

I hope all comes back in the normal range for you tomorrow. I have alway known vitamins are important to the body
But what I don’t know there is a balance, not taking enough it not good, and like I have found out taking to much can be very bad.

Well I’m back to work on Monday after taking an extra week to get my blood pressure meds adjusted, work on getting my
Potassium levels back up, and to get my vitamins levels lower. This week has been a struggle. Today has been the first day in 6 weeks I’ve felt that good. I was able to walk from doctors office to the other without stopping every 10 steps.
I was able to dink around in the house most of the day, without feeling likes I was going to fall over.
I have to thank my PCP and my Bariatric nutritionist for working to get me back on track.
Life is truly good.;)

That is FANTASTIC!!!! I am so thrilled that you are feeling better and able to enjoy your days more. It is so crazy to think that so much of the bad was caused by the vitamins but your team was on top of it in figuring out what would help you get to your new normal! Keep up the great work and good luck next week at work!
 
Had my bloodwork done on Monday but never heard from my doctor so I'm crossing my fingers that no news is good news. Last month when my potassium dipped to 2.7, she called me at 8:30 PM so I'm fairly certain that if it was still bad, she would have called. The week got away from me but I'll call Monday for reassurance.
