pre op liquid diet

I am having bariatric sleeve surgery in 2 weeks. I started the liquid diet yesterday and I am absolutely starving. Im feeling terrible as well. does this lighten up? What do you do if you have issues with blood sugar dropping while your on the 2 week pre op diet? I am allowed 3 protein shakes a day and water.

Welcome Tera! I can understand your struggles as that is a pretty strict pre-op diet. They vary so much from doctor to doctor. Try to remember that the purpose of the pre-op diet is to shrink your liver which helps during the surgery. I've read that surgeries can be canceled if the liver is too enlarged. So sometimes knowing the purpose if you didn't already know, helps keep you on task.

Try to keep yourself busy so your thoughts are on other things. And don't hesitate to contact your doctor if you feel this diet is causing blood sugar issues. They may give you something else you can add during the day. Good luck!

Hi, Tera. Welcome to the group. I also had a 2 week pre op liquid diet. It sucked. Really sucked. But after a few days, I started to feel strangely empowered, like if I could do that I could do anything. Possibly because I was lightheaded from lack of food lol But really, you can do it, it does get a bit better and it will actually be over in no time! Hang in there.
