Preop Appointment???

Tomorrow is my preop appoint with my surgeon and not sure what to expect .Can anyone share with me what goes on at a pre op appointment? My hospital labs are on the 9th of September. I am definitely going through so many emotions one minute I am excited and them I am nervous and scared. Ugh I am counting down the days down until my surgery date on the 16th...

Hi sunshine. My pre-op appointment was fairly simple. First the PA got my current weight, blood pressure taken, Rxs reviewed to ensure nothing had changed. My surgeon then came in and we reviewed all my pre-op testing together. She then told me more about my specific surgery such as number of incisions (it would be laparoscopic), air being injected into my tummy to raise it to make room. She then described the surgery as mine was robot-assisted. So she actually didn't touch me, she operated the robot, it was all pretty cool. She then drew me a picture of everything that she'd be doing inside, step by step. Lastly we discussed risks and she answered any last questions I had.

I was given a handout that told me everything I needed to do to prepare. Only clear fluids 24 hours before, nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before surgery. Also instructed to drink a bottle of Magnesium Citrate the day before surgery to cleanse the system.

The Friday before surgery (surgery was Monday morning), I had to have final clearances done at the hospital with a nurse there. Again weight was taken, meds reviewed and additional instructions given. She gave me 2 surgical sponges that were pre-soaked with some kind of antibiotic cleanser. I was to shower with one the night before surgery and then the second the morning of surgery.

Hope all these details help!
