Random Update

Hello. As you all know, my husband had the sleeve on Feb. 15th. He is doing great. He's down about 40lbs, including the pre-op liquid diet and has just hit the famed "Week 3 Stall" He's all "OMG! What am I doing wrong?!?" (like we all were). I'm all "It's fine, CHILL" As if I wasn't the hottest of messes during mine LOL

I don't think he is enjoying his journey as much as I am. Which sounds weird or like I enjoy his suffering .. I don't. But while he's on a full liquid diet for SIX weeks, I am *mostly doing it as well, in support. By mostly I mean, my soup has chunks and when I make my uncle cookies, I can eat them lol But really, I am highly enjoying the "refresher course" as I'm calling it.

So, to those of you who might be struggling right now, I would highly suggest doing a run through of your post op diet. It has really got me thinking about the foods I love and what food has "juice worth the squeeze" so to speak. It turns out, fresh baked cookies .. totally worth it. But a lot of the unhealthy-ish things I might grab as a quick snack or an easy lunch really aren't worth it. And even after eating those homemade cookies (full sugar FYI, I don't health-ify them) I am still at the low end of my acceptable weight range.

My husband is going to be unhappy when he finds out we may be doing this once a year forever lol

I'm so happy to read this. Probably for the wrong reasons. I had my surgery just a few days after your husband and I hit that three week stall. I was freaking out and had to remind myself to keep going and look at the whole weight loss. Good luck to you and your husband and thank you!

I completely forgot about the stalls along the way... I lost 15 lbs. BAM and now I'm at the up 1 lb/down 1 lb stage. Which is fine because my recent surgery for RNY was due to GERD and not needing to lose a lot of weight. But... still... the mental games we all play with ourselves and the scale are real! Best of luck to your spouse. Is six weeks of liquids post op standard where you are?

For the sleeve, yes. Our program has changed the post-op to include 6 weeks liquid. They were finding that people were having a lot more pain, nausea and other issues when moving on to the other phases sooner.

I had the bypass 2 years ago and had 1 wk clear, 2 full liquid, 1 puree, 1 soft and on to regular after that.

Not only does he have to do 6 weeks liquids post op, but he also had to do 3 weeks liquid for his pre-op diet. Dave carries most of his weight in his upper abdomen, like right under his chest. So the surgeon wanted him to lose as much as possible, since that extra weight is right over his liver. He is getting seriously annoyed; I'm like YAY SOUP!!

He only has 1 shake per day so it's not too bad. And I make root beer float shakes, shamrock shakes for St Patty's day, lemonade etc. Lunch is a protein boosted pudding, also mixed flavors and dinner is soup. He actually hates eating soup, so this is not ideal for him lol

I am going to try to make some protein pudding this weekend. My surgery is Monday and I basically want everything I put in my mouth to have protein in it.
I am not a soup person either, but I will manage, at least it is only for 2 weeks for me.

I am soooo tired of eating the same things on my pre-op diet already I can't imagine 6 weeks of it!
Give him props, that is tough!

Lipton makes a Cup O'Soup that's cream of chicken, and it is delicious! I don't usually partake in singles, but I make an exception here. You can certainly add protein crystals or yeast, etc. And make it with Magic Milk.

Yes! I remember that. I use to keep it on hand at work in case I didn't bring a lunch and didn't want to go out. That brings back memories! Glad I'm retired though!

Your husband and I had surgery the same day. I actually got on here this morning wondering if others had stalled this soon. Thank you for posting this and sharing that this is pretty normal. I had my 2nd post-op Dr. visit yesterday and the nutritionist said it was normal, but it feels better to hear it here, if that makes sense.

I'm struggling with solid foods, so I think in some cases, staying on liquids or soft solids is a good thing. I'm actually going to dial my diet back down. Not so much for the stall, although I hope it helps, but to actually get the protein in that they tell me is so important.

I'm praying things get easier soon for your husband. Please continue to update how he's doing, as it's comforting to have a surgery twin to walk through this with. Thank you!!
