Recurrent skidney stones and utis 9 mos. Post roux n y surgery.

Hi! I'm a 70 year old retired emergency dept rn who had roux n y gastric bypass done 12 02 2021 in Philly. I've happily lost 135lbs so far and am unhappily currently hospitalized with my second round of oral antibiotic-resistant uti. Currently on iv antibiotics (awaiting blood cultures) Have Googled all manner of oxalate stone formation( did NOT overindulge in beets, spinach, red meat, tea, cocacola( the big oxalate stone formers). Am well hydrated. No other complications.
Anybody else in this boat?
Possible discharge plans: daily antibiotic prophylaxis for the rest of my life along with my 4 daily Flintstone chewable and twice a day calcium citrate. ( stone lithotripsy, laser ablation then Stent removal this past summer for 11mm oxalate stone).

I've had Duodenal Switch with Roux En Y a year and a half ago and had to run to the ER twice in the last 2 months with stones. Last time I had them was 2011. (10 yrs pre surgery) I'm a uric acid stone former so mine do not show up on X-ray like calcium stones where they can sonic them without going in. Instead they have to detect them via CT Scan and either let me try and pass them or plan on Lithotripsy (which I had this procedure before but only after being in a VA hospital for 2 weeks before they put a stint in and sent me to Omaha NE for surgery 2 months later. I'm sort of a camel though. If I drink the recommended amount of water I feel so bloated and miserable. I think the recent bouts were part in relation with my abdominal hernia which has expanded a bit and I'm struggling with that. I typically wear a compression shirt but recently sized down. That was about the time the first run to the ER a couple months ago. I drove to the hospital and went down to my knees and nearly vomited in the parking lot and felt nautious at the check in counter...and then it went away. Two hours later they confirmed it passed to my bladder. The last episode I tried a hernia band and the same day I felt the stone coming on. They detected a 5mm stone and they doped me up on morphine and some other goodies and sent me home with pain killers to try and pass it. Second day home and I hadn't passed it. I finally drank a bunch of water, went in my garage and sat on a short stool and started working on a snowmobile. It didn't take long before I started feeling the pain. I just stayed seated as long as I could, took a pain killer and more water and went to bed. I woke up and the pain was gone. I think it passed to my bladder and while I don't think I've passed a 5mm, I have passed some smaller ones. I'm hoping they are broken up pieces from the main stone. Anyway, we are more susceptible to stones.

I’ve had 4 UTI’s in the last 3 months. Being a previous diabetic, this also caused 2 yeast infections from HELL. They continue to tell me my blood sugar is high! Mmm NOPE - my A1C is 5.3 - not even close to high. I’m seeing my bypass surgical team on Friday - hopefully they can give me answers. Good luck to you!
