RnY 6/22

Hi, I'm Missy. I finally had my gastric bypass on June 22nd. They released me from the hospital around noon on Wednesday. I only needed narcotic pain meds through the day of surgery. I was able to get down 53oz of liquids (mostly water and a high protein lemonade) yesterday. I am getting around pretty well and only have mild soreness 5 days out. However, I had a MAJOR headache since yesterday. I am assuming it was due to no sodium or no carbs? I literally have only had zero carb protein water and water. Does anyone have any advice for getting in other nutritional needs while on clear liquid? I did try chicken broth, but cannot seem to stomach it. Even the smell makes me gag now. I'll be very happy to get to full liquids.

other than the headache it sounds like so far so good! My dietician was fine with me starting full liquids (surgery was Mon 6/15) 6 days post op (got home on Thurs and started protein shakes on Sat)....obviously go with what your team is recommending but given you've has a smooth first 5 days, I'd be asking to start the shakes now - they do include some carbs. Are you taking your multivitamins? They may also help...hope you're able to get rid of the headache soon!

No vitamins or full liquid until Monday (tomorrow) I finally picked up some apple juice and some Pedialyte, just to mix in with the protein water to get some carbs etc. Seemed to work. The headache has lessened anyway. But I cannot WAIT until I can have full liquids tomorrow!! I feel like the whole world is going to open up. Which is pretty funny, since I was not as happy about full liquids for the pre-op diet. Sounds like your recovery is going really well!

Welcome to full liquids and vitamins! I'm at soft foods and figuring out how to get the protein with the small portions and not relying solely on protein shakes...hope the week goes well for you :)

Thanks! I was SO excited to get to protein shakes. Chocolate > lemonade!! Do you like Chicken Parm? I make (well, MADE) Chicken parm patties with ground chicken and mozzarella. They were really soft. That would probably work for your soft diet. Even though you'd have to make like 2-3 oz patties. They freeze well. If you want the recipe, lemme know. Although the ground chicken/mozzarella gave it away. Add parmesan cheese instead of breading to coat and that covers it! :D

That sounds good! Post the recipe and pictures!

1lb Ground Chicken
1/2 C Shredded Low Fat Mozzarella Cheese
1 T Italian Seasoning (I prefer the Good Seasonings Zesty Italian Dry Salad Dressing Mix .. SO GOOD!)
1/4 C Grated Parmesan OR a Parmesan/Breadcrumb mixture.
Olive Oil Spray (PAM) or you can use 1T of Olive Oil
Mix chicken and mozzarella together and form patties.
(If mixture is too dry, add a little milk. If mixture is too moist, add some Parm or a few breadcrumbs.)
Dip each side of patties into Grated Parmesan to form a crust. (No need to dip into egg first- ground chicken is very moist!)
Spray skillet or Heat 1 T Olive Oil.
Saute Patties until browned on each side. Times depends entirely on thickness of patties. You can see the chicken turn white on the sides and juice will run clear when completely cooked.
Serve with your favorite Spaghetti Sauce or Marinara on top.

*Sorry, I don't think I've ever taken a picture of food I made. I'll have to start, once I'm back on solid food.
