Hello! I am new to the group. I am awaiting my green light to meet with the surgeon. I have thyroid issues that started to act up, has anyone struggled to lose the pre - operative weight?

Welcome to the Forum!!!

I had 6 months of a pre-surgical weight loss program in which I lost 35 lb. Losing weight before the surgery was a struggle for me as it had been for years of dieting. The idea of surgery gave me a push as it was something I wanted very badly. I just had to show the insurance company that I was serious about following the rules, there was no specific amount of weight I had to lose for the surgery.

I am so happy, words can not express my feelings of what it feels like to have so much of my weight gone now and how well that I feel. I pass a store window and see my reflection and I can't believe it's me. I look like a normal person now. I still have weight to lose but I'm extremely happy even now as I am. I am down 200 lb from my highest weight and 165 lb since surgery. At my one year anniversary of my surgery, my bariatric doctor walked in and said to me, "you're so tiny" thats the best compliment I ever got. I guess I do look small next to what I used to look like. He said I have a lot of loose skin now which if that were removed I would weigh about 20 lb. less. Bariatric surgery is a great tool to lose weight, and if you use it right you can change your life. My best tip is not to stretch out your new tiny tummy after the operation. Eat slowly small amounts of food at a time. Your post op tummy size will hold about 2 ounces, and you will feel very full after eating just a couple of spoonfuls of food.

Good luck to you,

Cheyenne
