so tired.....

I am now 3 weeks post op. Things are good. I pretty much feel normal, tolerate foods fine but I can't get over how tired I always feel. I am so fatigued all the time. Is there a vitamin I am lacking? When I had the lap band the weight loss gave me energy and made me feel great. With the bypass I am just plain tired. Help!

Hi UpNorthMom, it is normal to be tired, your body is still healing from surgery and getting used to taking in so few calories that it will take time, it was a good month till I wasn't tired all the time and a good 2 months until I was able to start feeling really good. Just remember to take naps if you are tired and get extra rest if you can't take frequent naps, it will help you heal up. Hang in there it gets better. Tom

You are going to feel very tired until you finish healing. Plus, your calorie intake is much less than what your body is used to getting so the trade off is low energy at this point in time. Just make sure to follow your meal plan and get at least 60 grams of protein every day, take your supplements and get a LOT of sleep plus naps. I was extremely tired for almost 3 months but had energy to spare starting in the 4th month post surgery. But I am in my late 50's so it took a little longer for me to get over the extreme tiredness I had. If you are younger you will most likely start feeling better after the 2nd month. Your meal plan will change in the 4th month and you should be eating more calories and therefore have more energy. The surgeon said the tiredness was completely normal and stressed the things I mentioned here. Also, don't overdo your physical activity. Make sure to follow any restrictions the surgeon gave you for lifting, etc. You'll feel energized soon enough so don't stress out over doing any heavy housework or anything else, it will be waiting for you when you are fully recovered :) :) :)
