So, tonight is my first outing.

Hi, all. My cousin is getting married on Sunday and is having a bachelorette/bridal party (of a socially distanced 6 people in her yard) tonight. I'm looking forward to it, because it's exciting to have something to do. However, I am a little concerned about food. There is going to be pizza, pasta and Caesar salad. Is it rude to take my own food? I have to make sure I get my protein in and none of those things is going to get me there. Or should I just have a protein shake to cover and eat the salad? This is my first outing. I'm unsure of the protocol. Do you guys just take your own food when you go places or do you just make do?

I would eat prior to make sure I had protein and I wasn't hungry at the event. I probably wouldn't eat, I'd carry a non-alcoholic drink around with me all the time. If there is any small thing that was suitable, I might nibble on that for a long time. Just tell the truth that you aren't hungry but the food looks and smells amazing. Perhaps the issue is I don't feel like anyone should get that upset about a guest not eating their food, because I wouldn't care. Their company and presence is much more important than if they eat my food.

Well, that was awkward and I did not stick as closely to the program as I normally do. Which I guess is fine for one day, but from now on I'm just taking my own stuff. When I reviewed my food journal, it was fine (I did have a protein shake pre-party to make sure I at least met my goal there). But the entire thing was just uncomfortable. From asking for a water, to which the response was a repeat offering of the long, long list of booze, wine, and soda options. When I said no, thanks just a water, the pause was so long the neighbor offered to grab me a bottle of water from HER house. My cousin had the sleeve in December so I guess I just thought that my first outing, since it was her party, would go a little more smoothly. Ah, well. It was still fun and you live and learn right? Now I know .. take your stuff with you and don't worry about seeming rude. Thanks for the advice, guys!
