Sooo dizzy and lightheaded 6 days post-op.

Hey friends,
This is day 6 post-op over here. I am so dizzy. Like almost fainting when I stand up from the bathroom, sit up off of couch, pick something up off floor etc.....the dizziness and lightheadedness have been so bad I've held on to things and thought "Well....this is it. I'm gonna pass out".
Have you guys had this happen to you at all? I'm going to the doctor tomorrow to check stuff. I've been drinking about 50oz of liquids a day so far . Still only allowed protein shakes, but have moved up to premiere protein which has 30g protein each one.
Anyone else?

Your blood pressure is probably low, I know mine dropped out post-surgery. In the hospital, they gave me Dilaudid which lowered my blood pressure enough that I did pass out and hit the floor. If you are taking a narcotic pain killer, I would look to other options. Also, bring it up to your doctor tomorrow.

I stopped the Dilaudid after that incident in the hospital, and have had a few dizzy spells since, but no full blackout.

Increasing your water intake can help as well. Dehydration can cause low blood pressure.

Are you on medication for high blood pressure? I was told to discontinue my BP medication the day of surgery. My blood pressure has been normal ever since surgery without medication.
no that's a good point though too! After you guys on here said it could be a blood pressure thing it looked like people all over were having issues with their meds after bariatric surgery

So I had an appointment today. That I canceled this morning like a dork because I felt so much better. Then at 445 this afternoon I fell onto the floor because of almost passing out. Dr. Says to up fluids and wants me to come in if upping fluids doesn't help. I had been drinking about 60 oz including the protein shakes and she said that she wants 60 oz on top of the shakes which I didn't realize. So we will see how it goes!

Why is it we always feel better right before the doctors appt?!?! Never cancel an appointment unless, along with feeling better, you have discovered the reason you weren't feeling well in the first place.
Along with adding fluids, I agree that you should pick up a home BP monitor. They aren't too expensive and are handy to have around. Low BP can be dangerous so its best to keep an eye on it. Especially after bariatric surgery.

girl it's so true haha. WHYYYYYYY DID I CANCEL hahaha. Thank you I will look into getting a monitor!

on the bp monitor idea: don't depend on it. it's a way to get a general high or low reading, but most are barely accurate. i've had two and i took care of a friend who had one as well, so i've had some experience with them. but do get one. it's a really good idea to take your bp before you get out of bed, and track it throughout the day. we can all buy medical tools, but without the medical degree, we don't have the skill to read them as accurately as we'd like. one sister who was morbidly obese and died from CHF used to flaunt hers at me if I said anything about her bad behavior. she could get a "normal" reading even though she was not behaving in a normal, healthy manner.
Wow about your sister!
I will definintely look into getting a BP monitor. I think I have a coupon for CVS right now haha

Agreed. Those home bp cuffs are rarely accurate and should only be used as a general guide.
