Still one of my best decisions

Well, Dave's (hubby) surgery is today, so I'm on here reading posts trying to re-familiarize myself with early post op life. While I am a bit shocked by how much I have forgotten about those early days, I'm also stunned by how much has just become second nature. Which just makes me even more grateful that I had my bypass.

I've always said that the best thing about this tool is the opportunity to reset your habits, without your brain/hormones screaming at you that you're starving. I have certainly had moments of struggle. I've had moments that I have slipped into bad habits and have to yank myself back. But, overall, I really do feel that my relationship with food is a thousand times improved. And that I can and will continue to successfully use this tool.

Watching Dave go through all the pre-op stuff, getting ready for post op life and the emotional roller coaster of thinking you're somehow giving up food also makes me grateful that I'm 20 months post op LOL But for those of you who are new or new-ish to the process, hang in there! It is totally worth it. You aren't giving anything up worth having. And the things you gain, health, control, self-esteem, a new wardrobe, both quality and quantity to your life, are worth more than a million Big Mac. (The man is obsessed with cheeseburgers o_O)

Here's hoping for a speedy recovery for your husband. You both are troopers, especially doing the 2 wk pre-surgery diet together. I know he will be up & moving and ready to get home asap having you by his side helping and motivating him. Prayers & good thoughts ❤❤❤❤

It's funny. My weight doesn't make me feel miserable or unhappy. This is a health decision for me. I guess if I have good self-esteem now, in a few months I'm gonna be unbearable.
Good for you. It didn’t make me feel miserable self-esteem wise. Just the pressure on my joints and my spine, all that weight I had to carry. I don’t think I almost realized it until the weight started coming off. Hahaha you can be as uncomfortable as you want, true friends will enjoy your success with you.

You are an inspiration! I'm sure your hubby will succeed as well!

Does Dave check the support or stories here? Just wondering. Curious for his words on his journey/adventure.

He doesn't yet think he'll need a support group, which I 100% disagree with lol I suggested that he check out Ryan's stuff on YouTube, as videos are more his thing than mine. Our bariatric program also has a zoom support group, which he may check out. He is also regularly checking in with my cousin, her husband and daughter. They have all had the sleeve so he feels they can be his support group. I am iffy on that, as none of them feel they are/have done as well as they wanted or should have.

He is doing pretty well, although he still has nausea and is taking meds. It's only been 10 days, so I figure that's still normal. We have had very different post op experiences, so I kind of feel bad. He expected easy and hasn't really gotten it and what worked for me doesn't work as well for him. I had 1oz glasses I used for weeks and measured every single ounce. He HATES that so, he's already just drinking bottles and counting at the end. Lucky for him, I have made and measured all the protein pudding/shakes/soups etc that he is having for meals so at least that's easy to track. And actually, it's helping me out cuz I'm doing more tracking too.
