Stomach pain

Hi everyone, I just had bariatric surgery 3 days ago on wed Nov 3rd. I am in quite a bit of pain. I never expected it to hurt this badly. It is not incisions that hurt. I feel like I have been punched about 50 times just under my right ribs. How long does this pain last? I also am having a really hard time keeping anything down. My mouth is as dry as sand paper and I can’t take more than a tiny sip every like half hour or I throw up. Is that going to get better? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hi Missy, welcome to the group. So sorry you are having a rough time but it will get better! As for dry mouth, you could try Biotene products which come in a rinse or a spray. But if you have any concern about the pain, please consult with your doctor, especially since you can't keep anything down. I hope you feel better!

Hi Missy, Just as a precaution I would reach out to your surgical team to make sure everything is okay. That being said, I know some people who had minimal pain, I was sort of middle of the road, felt like you said - like someone punched me in the stomach and it lasted a week. That was really my only rough patch. So I feel pretty lucky. I chose not to do any RX meds after I left the hospital and stuck to extra strength tylenol and alternated with ice packs and heating pads. For thirst, try popsicles or even plain ice chips. I also made my own popsicles with Gatorade. Hope tomorrow is better than today!
