May 9th. is my surgery date. Going with the Gastric Sleeve surgery. Started at 280.lbs. Have been up to 297lbs. Reached pre-surgery goal of 264lbs a week ago. Now at 254lbs. Getting pretty nervous and dont know if I will ever get over wondering if I could somehow find a way to get the weight off traditionaly? Tried SOO many times before and at 55yrs old pre-diebetic,fatty liver,Screws in my back from surgery, some spinal cord damage and beggining COPD. Just cant get the ol heart rate up long enough to burn those Calories. Just cannot seem to stay on a DIET for more than 2-3 months either? Time is running at age wise and health wise. I do believe this is the only True way to get the tools needed to solve the problem. Wonder always sneaks back in though. I am ready to do what it takes for a succesful Life style change with Surgery. Anybody else feel this way?? Tell me this is normal?? LOL!!

Larry-Welcome to the forum. I think a lot of us here are in similar circumstances. I am 57 with spinal stenosis (2 back surgeries), neuropathies, was diabetic pre-surgery, hypertension, gout, degenerative joint disease, spondylosis, need hip replacement and in a wheelchair whenever I leave the house. I have also tried to lose weight by just dieting and exercise and always gained it back plus a few more pounds. I decided to have WLS now while I was stable enough to have the surgery. I actually tried to have the surgery 6 years ago but my insurance had an exclusion for any and all WLS even with letters of medical necessity from multiple doctors. Once I became permanently disabled and eventually went on Medicare I was approved for surgery. I realized over 6 years ago that this was the only option I had left.

thanks for the support!

Thank you Pat for the warm welcome and kind words of support. Congrats on your journey as well. You have had a tough hill to climb. I hope you are healing and daily routines are getting easier. Thank you again. I will follow up after surgery. Off to see the Nurse 1 more time today and surgeon on the 3rd for another 1 on 1 pre-register at Hospital today too. Then wait till the 9th!!! Peace and Godbless!

Hi larry welcome tothis chat room
i think everything you are experiencing is "normal" 55 also diabetic andlist of other health issues.
I see surgeon on may 4th and hopefully get my surgery date too.
Loosing the pounds is not as easy as it was when we were younger. The old treadmill cringes when i get on it,lol but i know it's here to help me reach my goal. The body is in pain but i beleive once i have my w/l surgery and get lots of pounds off the pressure on my joints and back will lessen up alot and i'll be able to enjoy life with more energy and enthsiasm. At least others have said they had more energy and i beleive them.
How many months has it taken you to get to this stage where your surgery is so soon? I started my journey in jan 2012,
i love this chat room because everybody seems to understand we're all facing the same battle"our weight" and when i can come and read others success's it gives me reason's of hope and encouragement.
Keep us posted on how you are doing

Hi Donna . Thanks for the response. I started 1st week in Feb. I hope for less back ,Leg pain when the weight comes off too! I am with Kaiser in South Sacramento. They just started the program there so that is why it is moving so fast. I am part of the first group through. 3 years ago I was going to do it but had to drive to SanFrancisco. I backed out. Sacramento Kaiser started the program so I made a final decision. Started the 1200 cal. diet Kaiser puts out. I lost my req. 15lbs in 4 weeks and completed all the tests in 2 weeks. I have been to several nutrition and support group classes, chest X-ray,Ultra sound,EKG,blood work. Met with my surgeon today and pre-registered at admittance. All my tests are positive and I am ready. I have 1 more meet with the nutritionist on the 3rd. Iam doing the Gastric Sleeve. What surgery are you considering? Some clinics have different ways. Ive heard of being put on a 2 week liquid diet Pre-Surgery and other Controled diet monitering and different tests, less tests? Kaiser is reconized as a "Center For Excellence" In Bariatric Weight loss surgery so I really feel Very Safe as well as educated on WHAT TO DO and EXPECT afterwords. I hope you are in a SAFE place and wish you all the best. Keep us posted and I will do the same. God bless.
Sincerely
Larry

Thank you NanaG!! Welcome to the journey! I was nervous a few weeks ago Now it is turning to excitment thanks to all the positives Ive read and the support from Family and friends. . Cant wait to start this new life! Wishing you all the best! Keep us posted along the way. I will too.

yes, I know how you feel. I am more nervous now, waiting to hear if the insurance approved me or not. I don't see why not, I have diabetes, high blood pressure, depression, high cholesterol, fibromyalgia and my BMI is over 50, so there shouldnt be any reason why I don't get approved. I'll keep everyone posted!
