Surgery type second guessing

I’ve only had one appointment so far with my weight loss surgery center. I was fairly confident in the VSG, but after reading some more info and other posts, I’m second guessing which surgery to have. I have Hashimotos autoimmune disease and a genetic condition called MTHFR. The MTHFR does not have anything to do with weight, but does with vitamin absorption, clotting, and cholesterol. I worry more about the Hashi’s and the longevity of weight loss. Does anyone have experience with thyroid disfunction and VSG or bypass? I know the bypass is more invasive, but I need long term weight reduction. So if that means a more invasive surgery, I’m for it. I know a lot of this will be discussed with my surgeon. I just like know people’s stories for reference.

My thyroid is, as of now, not well controlled. I can tell my levels are off because my face is puffy, my joints hurt a lot more than normal, my skin is drier than usual, and cold temps hurt me more than normal. I have an appointment with my endo the week after next, so I will discuss my levels, also have blood sugar and A1C tested even though I’ve never had diabetes problems. I’m also going to talk to him about the surgery.
The MTHFR will just require me to have even more B12 than the increase that will be required after surgery. So far the only time the MTHFR has been something to “manage” was during my pregnancies and after surgery. After surgery is just to be more aware of clotting problems, so I am ready for that.
