The Dreaded Plateau...

I had my RNY on March 12, and have lost 52 lbs to date. The past week however, the scale hasn't budged. This is incredibly frustrating and worrisome for me, as I have so much left to lose. (I started at 269 and my goal is 145.) I've seen that some of you have really stressed the importance of getting enough water and protein, two things that I do struggle with. I've never been much of a meat eater, and post-surgically this hasn't changed. My water intake is also suffering. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Congratulations on your success Kathryn!! I had RNY 3 months ago today. I started at 255 and I have lost 45 lbs. I had a 3 week plateau that was driving me crazy. I broke through it this week. I got through it by focussing on the non scale victories and staying the course. I follow the meal plan, I am sipping fluid all day long and exercise daily. I’m sure there will be many more plateau’s ahead from what I’ve read. Try your best to stay hydrated, get your protein in and keep moving!! We are in this for the long run regardless of what the scale says:)) Wishing you all the best and continued success!!

Hi Kathryn & congrats on your loss so far. :)

Unfortunately plateaus happen no matter what you do. Your body just needs to "self adjust".

Just stick to your diet, water, exercise and your body will catch back up. One thing to do is start taking measurements! I wish I had done it from the beginning but started 4 months in. So on slower months scale-wise, I would still see that I was loosing inches. My body was shifting and melting off. ;)

You mention that you aren't a meat eater, can you get your protein from other sources like protein shakes/bars, eggs, cheese, nuts, etc...? Did you discuss this with your nutritionist before surgery?
