Things that make you dump

Just want to point out for those that are new, dumping is more common with bypass patients than with the sleeve. Sometimes I think I should have had bypass so it would keep me from eating things I shouldn't have. But from what I hear dumping can be pretty awful, so I don't wish that on anyone or take it lightly.

This thread is very helpful so people know what to avoid, although everyone is different.

I purposely DIDN’T get bypass for that reason lol but I knew many who thought like you and went for it cause they wanted to be held accountable so to speak. I still wanted to enjoy all the different foods in life (in moderation of course) and not worry about dumping cause I “treated” myself.

Anything “sugar free”, or high in real sugar or fat. I have only dumped twice. I hadn’t eaten too much I had just TRIED from the above list. Got nauseous, sweaty, and took a swift trip to the restroom! I also got sick one night after eating almonds - not dumping just VERY hard to digest! The pains in my stomach were so bad, made me wince, I decided I would go to the ER first thing in the morning. But by then it had passed. I told my surgeon. I will never eat another almond again!!!

Watermelon or anything with too much cane sugar or corn syrup. For me it's just a colon cleanse back and fourth to the bathroom while I empty my intestines. The long term side effect of dumping syndrome is that the pancreas dumps insulin into the digestive system if sugars enter the small intestine too quickly. This can cause all the side effects previously mentioned but then it can also be difficult to get the blood sugar levels back up
