medicine causing weight gain

I have gained so much weight in the past 4 months due to the medicine I take for fibromyalga (sp?). My regular doctor is in the process of referring me to a surgeon to discuss bariatric surgery. The medicine I take makes me hungry all the time. Will surgery actually help me in this instance...
