I have just started looking into bariatric surgery. I hit that "Im never going to weigh this much" point about 4 weeks ago. I started a new diet that is very similiar to the post operative diet, but in regular servings. I have lost my hungry feeling. Sweets arent appealing. I have lost about 9 lbs since then. But, i have been at this yo-yo for too many years. I need that help to conquer my growing weight. I want to have surgery for my health. Im past the, i have to look good stage. I want to be able to walk without getting winded. I want to stop shopping in the plus sizes. I want my children to stop worrying about my weight.

Hi, Bridge. Welcome to the group. I have to tell you that I would absolutely recommend WLS to anyone and everyone who is thinking about it. I had the gastric bypass in June. While it hasn't been 100% what I expected, it has truly given me a new lease on life. I am healthier than I have been in 20 years. No more diabetes, high blood pressure/cholesterol, fewer aches and pains from the wear and tear on my joints. I can and do exercise regularly without being out of breath or worrying that my heart is going to pound out of my chest. Shopping was always fun, even in plus size, but I can buy anything, anywhere now. And honestly, the surgery has not been as restrictive for me as I thought it would be. I thought lots of foods would make me sick, therefore I would be unable to eat them. It turns out, I can eat pretty much anything. But the surgery gave me a chance to change my lifestyle for the better. I can eat a cookie, hell, I have. But that leaves me no room for nutrients, so it becomes a choice that I must think about. I am aware of food in a way that I could not be without this surgery. It forces me to make better choices. Good luck in your journey!

Welcome to our group Bridge! I had surgery in June and now, 6 months later I can walk faster without pain and without losing my breath. I haven't gotten out of the plus sizes yet (went from 5X to 2X so far), but when I do get to regular sizes you are going to hear me shout for joy here, LOL! But already I have seen so many advantages of having the surgery and I don't regret it. Have you talked to a surgeon or bariatric center yet? Most require you to lose some weight before your surgery so it's good that you are already starting. There is a lot of information here on this site that may help you or feel free to ask any questions. Looking forward to hear more from you!

Welcome Bridge, your story sounds just like mine. diet after diet, weight loss, weight gain, and I just kept getting bigger. Finely had a sleeve surgery 1/7/2020. It was the best decision I ever made. It takes work and dedication but it is worth it. The ability to walk into any store and find clothes that fit, to be able to walk, stand, do thing you haven't been able to do for years. Your life will be so much better. And this site is a good place to come for support and advice.

I too would recommended it. I had a sleeve done on 9/2 and so far have lost 51 pounds with anywhere from 30-40 pounds to go to hit my goal weight. While my arthritis doesn't feel any better(I have had it in my knees since my early 20s when I was thin) I dont get winded as easy, I sleep much better and my energy is slightly better (but again I have always had a history of very low energy).

I still don't really like how I look in clothes but I think its more because everything sags now but thats a work in progress accepting. I like that I actually have a jaw line again. No double chin and my neighbor told me over the weekend that I have a waistline!

I would join the chorus of "no regrets" here. You still have to commit to making lifelong changes to keep the weight off, but the surgery is an amazing weapon in the battle, and there are so many positive things that can come from it.
