New and in need of encouragement

I know this sucks right now but you should find you will feel a bit better each day or two. I had a lot of nausea all this time but it did start to go away and will still come back every now and then. Keep drinking and time should be the thing to help you

Most of all Congrats on your surgery. What WLS did you have?

I hope they have given you nausea meds, which should help. Roni gives excellent advice in the post above. I'm assuming you're still on liquids, since you are only 5 days post op? If so, I suggest a shot glass every 15 to 20 minutes as a measure for your water and protein shakes. It will help you keep track and it's a small amount so it's easier to manage. Good luck.

I was given prescription bottles already filled with Zofran, Colace, and omeprazole to take home from the hospital. I luckily had very little nausea but zofran worked like a charm. I was instructed to take omeprazole daily for 3 months after surgery, and colace twice daily for at least 6 months.

I think you had a very pro-active team. Wishes more would focus on the colon in after care.

I agree that I was very lucky with my team. And speaking of colon care, thanks to Diane I started using Benefiber from about 2 weeks before surgery, resumed it the day after my return home post-surgery, and still take it tpday. No way did I want to deal with constipation or straining after going through WLS!

Benefiber you say? Taking notes
Yes yes yes! Benefiber is one of my best friends! I buy the large size at Sam's club, & add 2-3 spoonfuls to Gatorade Zero every evening. It has no flavor or lumpy texture once it mixes up, unlike Metamucil, which I was advised to avoid - psyllium fiber was too rough for my intestinal tract after gastric bypass.

Anyway, Benefiber works each morning like a charm. Only once in 6+ months post-surgery have I had to add Miralax, after eating cheese a few days in a row. Oh, and I have prescription Colace from my bariatric team that I take twice daily. I did have prescription Omeprazole, but I rarely take it now.

Good luck and hope you have smooth sailing ahead!

So sorry you are having such a problem with nausea. I suspect they didn't want you to get dehydrated and probably want to do some testing. I hope you feel better soon. Please keep us posted. Good luck!
