Hi everyone! My name is Lexie and i’m from PA. I am 11 days post op RNY and finally starting to feel like myself again! I am excited and very overwhelmed by this journey. I’m barely able to eat 1oz a meal and the protein goals to meet are daunting with barely eating. Thank you all for the amazing posts on here, it is very helpful. I have very few people I have told about the surgery so I love the idea of having support online! Have a great day!

Welcome Lexie. Were you nervous swallowing that first bite of food? I don’t have a surgery date yet, but my psychologist suggested that I practice chewing my food to applesauce consistency. Sometimes I swallow too soon out of habit. Is it easier to do the “extra chewing” after surgery when you know you HAVE TO do it?

Hi! I was honestly horrible at eating slowly and chewing despite trying. I think it is easier now eating such tiny bites and the fear of getting sick. I automatically eat so much slower but have had to remind myself a few times!

I’m very cognizant of my chewing even over a year out but if it’s something super delicious or I’m in a rush I have to remind myself to slow down! LOL I think it’ll be a lifelong thing for me, which is a ton better than lifelong health issues.

Hi, Lexie. Welcome to the group and congrats on your surgery. Trying to get your protein and water in can be a struggle in the beginning but do the best you can. I remember thinking "OMG, again?!?!" every time I had to eat or drink, which is pretty much every second in the beginning. lol It does get easier so keep that in mind.
