I'm glad I found this forum. I have been working to lose weight with diet and behavioral modification but am tired of the yo yo-ing that is happening. I have gone thru a psychological eval with a Bariatric program but have been waiting two months for the results and have been told that it will probably be December before I will be able to get into working with a psychologist. I start group therapy with a wt loss group next month for 7 weeks and am hoping to connect with others. I think it is time for me to decide to have the surgery but need to deal with my disordered eating issues.
Anyone else find that the programs are slow at getting you help?
Also any tricks in dealing with hunger?

Wow, that is such a long wait til Dec for a psychologist visit. But your patience will be rewarded in the end.

As far as helping with hunger, one of the best tips is to begin replacing all other liquids (including diet drinks) with water. Make it your daily goal to drink 64-80ozs daily. You absolutely will need to do this post-surgery anyway, because dehydration is one of the top reasons for bariatric patients making post-surgery trips to the ER!

Switch out any sodas, fruit juices (aka sugar water flavored with fruit, with very little benefit), and especially caffeinated beverages. You don't need to completely give up all coffee if you need a morning eye-opener, just reduce it to 1 cup daily until close to surgery time when you probably will be required to be caffeine free. Caffeine is a diuretic that you will need to avoid during the 1st few months after WLS.

Water has so many health benefits for your skin, bloodstream, tissues, etc. And above all, filling up with water may help assuage hunger pains.

Switching to more lean sources of protein, and increasing your vegetables will help you stay fuller longer. Keep veggie sticks and things like salsa and/ or guacamole to munch on when you think about having chips & other snacks.

Simple carbs like white bread, noodles, white rice, and sugary foods quickly turn to sugar in your bloodstream. Unless you burn off that sugar, it quickly stores as fat for later use if needed. Darn that caveman biology! Trying to switch to multigrain versions again will help keep you fuller. Low carb yogurt is a good satisfying sweet treat.

Best of luck on your journey and please stay in touch. Also please feel free to search the archives for helpful articles, including recipes others have contributed. ❤❤
