hi there to whoever may be reading itI went in today for my pre-op appointment thinking I was going to be getting gastric bypass the doctor told me that he think that would be a great candidate for thsips procedure he is a very good surgeon and I'm confident in his abilities but he has not done this particular procedure yet he feels that I'm a prime candidate for this procedure I'm not the only person that he's offering this procedure to so I'm wondering if there's anybody out there that has had this procedure done anything to give me any information my mind is racing I'm scared I wanted to what's best I want to do with going to be most effective

Hi sips or naw, I'm not a professional about this by any means but I watched the you tube video on the sips procedure. My opinion is that the sips procedure is too new and not enough is known about it. I think Gastric Bypass is probably the best way to go myself but that is just my opinion. It's really up to you and your Doctor. I've never heard of sips. It was never mentioned in my orientation class. So as far as I'm aware it's really new. So my opinion would be Gastric Bypass. I hope this helps you. My doctor told me Gastric Bypass helps you lose weight faster, helps with Diabetes and lowers the chances of having heartburn for me. Good Luck. I hope you find a solution.

I agree with Nisey. I have never heard of the sips procedure and my doctor and his entire staff has educated me very well on the 3 procedures he offers. I would NOT be the first "candidate" nor would I even allow this doctor to perform this procedure on me until he can provide me with enough literature, training, and medically proven facts that this procedure would work. I believe you should inform your doctor that you want the gastric bypass and that you are NOT interested in sips.

Good Luck with your Decision... I know this is frustrating, but if you doctor is trying to push on you an entire unheard or should i say "un-practiced" procedure i would have to find me a different doctor.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!!

Your surgeon wants you to be a test subject for his new kind of surgery. Ask him what are the benefits of this surgery over the gastric bypass? Because you are a test subject is the operation free? Lol. Probably not. If you have insurance that wouldn't matter anyway. Unless he gave you a bunch of information showing why this new operation was better than the Bypass, then I would stick with the Gastric Bypass which is tried and true. Don't let the surgeon talk you into doing something you don't want to do.

Good luck,

Cheyenne

I actually went online and found an article called "Goodbye Gastric Bypass.. Hello Sips" It says Sips is the newest and best new weight loss surgery and will replace the bypass and goes into detail why it's superior.. I still would be a little nervous because your surgeon has never done this surgery before.
