Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Kathi and have not had surgery as of yet. Praying I get a surgery date when I meet w my surgeon on the 29th!! Hopefully surgery will be in May or June 2016! I'm so ready for this journey!! I'm a 62yr g-ma who just wants to walk and spend remaining years left having beautiful memories w my 2 g-sons!! Never thought I'd ever come to decision to have wls but my pain so great this is what I need!! Can't wait for my new life to begin!!

Hi Kathi! I am also pre surgery. I just got my date on Friday. I'm scheduled for May 9th. I start my pre-op diet tomorrow. I am cooking my favorite meal for dinner as a goodbye to my old way of life. Hope you get a surgery date. What surgery are you having?

Hi Dorjeanne! I should get my surgery date this Friday. I'm not sure which surgery I'm going with....want to talk to surgeon then for recommendations as I have a good 200# to lose. Which one are you going with? Are you nervous? I'm excited now and I'm sure I'll be more nervous closer to date. I wish you luck and success with your surgery!! Would love to stay in touch seeing we will be having our surgeries so close together. Such an exciting time!!!

I am having a laparoscopic gastric bypass. I am nervous and excited. I'm nervous because I have always failed at this weight loss thing. I have been over weight my entire life and I don't want to fail again. I'm excited for a new life and a new me. I am nervous about interacting with people as the new me. I don't know what to expect or how to interact with the world differently than I currently do. I am nervous about recovery and about cooking in the future. I am a mom to 8 kids. 7 still live in the home. I am excited about the kind of mom I can be if I don't have to carry around this weight and nervous about meal prep. Do I eat what I feed them just less? Do I have a separate meal prep? All of these things have yet to be worked out in my mind, but I can't wait to run & play with them. I got my surgery date on Friday and have probably eaten too much this weekend anticipating not being able to eat things in the future. All liquids or soft foods starting tomorrow. I'll keep you updated on how I handle that. Maybe weight loss will start before the surgery! Keep me updated on your appointment, the 29th right?

Is the hospital you're dealing with put you through the steps? Like psychology& nutritionist? I'm going through Cleveland Clinic and they are very thorough. ...I'm sure I'll have questions after surgery and I'm going to heavily lean on them for answers. I would imagine you will have to eat differently than family for awhile. I'm lucky in that aspect because I'm by myself and can control what's in my house and what I eat.. w/o worrying about anyone else. I already told my 2 g-sons that after I have surgery there will no longer be any junk in the house. They can bring their own that goes home w them but they can be happy w fruit too. I just got to keep my trigger foods out of house. One of the girls on here followed her dr orders to the T and lost her weight fast! I want to do the same thing. I have been reading blogs and things on Pinterest to keep reinforcing my thinking. I too have been over weight my whole life. I KNOW what to do to lose weight but l I'll ke I told my nutritionist. ..right now I have a choice. After surgery I won't have a choice. ...or I will get sick by eating wrong things and I don't want that because I hear very painful! I have stinkin thinkin alot and that will be my battle but I'm determined to do right. I want the time I have left on this earth to spend making memories w my 2 g-sons! I too will probably eat too much before I start prepping for surgery....I already had my last Chinese meal...lol. That's normal to do!! I just find that it's an exciting time for us!! I have friends that have had the surgery but that's been 10+ yrs ago and so much has changed. So it'll be nice to have someone who has had recent surgery to talk with and compare notes with! I'm so glad you responded to my post Dorjeanne!!
