I had rxny gastric bypass and internal hernia repair 06-28-08. I weighed 415 lbs pre op and had a 54 BMI I was in pain constantly but it was manageable. I lost over half my weight to 212 and since then my pain has gotten worse and has gotten a lot stronger. Since then went to a pain management specialist found out I have damage in all 3 areas of my spine, degenerative disc disease, bulging discs, pinched nerves, and either Osteo Arthritis or Psoriatic Arthritis, not to mention one knee replaced but the other is bone on bone and needs replaced. What I don't understand is why my pain is a lot worse even after losing over half my weight and nothing seams to come close to stopping the pain I also have daily headaches sometimes going into migraines. They also said prior to surgery I had fibromyalgia. Is anyone else going through anything like this?

In the literature I read prior to surgery it told us not to expect miracles from our surgery. Things you had before surgery are still there and might be more evident if you are more active after your large weight loss. I am just the opposite. I just had my surgery and can't think about my aches and pains. I have one knee that is bone-on-bone. I haven't given it any thought since I am so focused on my weight and diet. I'm guessing it is waiting to bother me next time I'm out and about. Good luck working through all the challenges you are going through.

I hope for the best for you. I have a tore cartiage on on knee and my back is messed up. So I guess I am in for pain when I have my surgery. Hey but you can handle anything as long as you keep a clear mind and believe it is for a purpose.
