Hello all.
I am happy to find an online support group!

I had the roux en y bypass on 7/29/19.

I have been overweight my entire adult life. I have tried all kinds of diets with no success. I was so tired of not being able to do things with my children. I just want to be able to show them a healthy active lifestyle, and how I was living wasn't the right way. I really want to live long enough to see my children grow up and my future grandchildren. So I made the choice to take the drastic step of bariatric surgery. I did have a small bowel obstruction 3 days after surgery due to swelling. I was hospitalized for 4 days, but luckily didnt end up needing any additional procedures. Since being home I have been suffering with acid reflux/burning in my chest and belly. The docs have me taking mylanta and 2 doses of nexium daily. I hope this helps.
 
Welcome to the group Sarah! Congrats on taking this step to help you live a longer, healthier life. I haven't yet had my surgery (but I too will be having the same surgery as you) so I don't yet know what you are going through. I certainly hope that the acid reflux/burning in your chest doesn't last too long! Keep us updated on your progress. There are several veterans in the group that give amazing advice and support, so you have come to the right place! We look forward to being along side you during this journey to the new you :)

Hello Sarah, & welcome. You might also find some answers by looking through a lot of the older posts. Do a search for one of your key words like acid reflux, burning in chest and belly, Mylanta, Nexium. This is a problem I've been reading about from recent members, but never experienced or heard about in the past. You're seeing a doctor which is great. Did the doc say this was a temporary thing? I hope so!

They didnt say, but on a positive note, today I am feeling better.

My doctor puts all his RNY patients on an acid reflux medication for the first 39 days post op.
Maybe you doctor could prescribe one for you?

Yes, I am on nexium and they have me taking twice a day now. Luckily today I am feeling a bit better. Thank you.
