Gastric surgery has ruined our family

My daughter had surgery in2013 and the body that was wheeled into the operation was not the one that came out. The daughter I knew died mentally. We had a beautiful family. That is gone now. The dr should have never done it. For many reasons. After he messed her up he left town. I have supported her through it all in many ways. Now, she left her husband, is not the mother she should be and has an older man who is abusing her terribly. She just now got arrested dui. Drinks one drink and blacks out. Please if you are thinking of doing this,,,please don’t. Unless you are told you will die without it. For vanities sake it is not worth loosing your life over. Our family will be forever ruined

I'm very sorry to hear about your daughter and the hurt that your family is enduring. Unfortunately, those of us with food addictions, can sometimes transfer that addiction to alcohol (or shopping or gambling, etc.) if we don't work on our mental well being along with our physical health.

Alcohol affects our bodies differently after weight loss surgery and good doctors warn us about this and strongly discourage drinking. It sounds like your daughter's surgeon was a flake and unfortunately your family paid the price.

I think I can speak on behalf of most of my friends on this site when I say that we have been educated about the psychological impact surgery can have. If someone isn't emotionally equipped for all the changes, problems can manifest in many different areas of their life. It sounds like your daughter shouldn't have ever passed the psych clearance that most surgeons require.

Thank you for sharing. It is a reminder that mental health is just as important as physical health.
