Just getting started

Hi everybody!
My name is Jill and I am from St. Augustine, Florida. I have just begun the process toward surgery. I won't be having it until the summer as I am a teacher.
I am trying to find any and all information I can and connect with others for support. I am looking forward to hearing about and from everyone.

Welcome to the group Jill! Congrats on starting the process :) Have you decided which surgery you are going to have yet? Do you have any comorbidities along with obesity? This website is a wealth of information about the surgery. There are threads that are pre-surgery and ones that are post-surgery so you can read stories about every step of the process. If there are specific areas that you are looking for information on, you can always click on the search icon on the upper right hand side of the screen and search for a particular term like "vitamins" or "RNY" or "Sleeve" and see what people are saying about the areas that are of the most interest to you right now. You can also go to member's pages and see what posts they have done to follow an individuals's story. You would simply click on the person's name and then under "Find" you can select "find threads by..." and see all threads they have started. If you look for any and all posts by that person it will include their responses to other's threads (a huge wealth of info but never know what it will be about lol). Good luck with your journey and let us know how we can help!

Thanks for the warm welcome!
My doctor and I decided that RNY would be best for me. My BMI is 49.5.
I have high BP, sleep apnea, a mild thyroid issue, and arthritis in my knees. I have always been very active, but in the last year, I
have seriously seen my health decline because of my weight. 10 years ago I lost 129 lbs by just eating right and exercising. That does not work for me anymore. A very good friend of mine had the RNY 3 years ago and serves as an inspiration, support, and wealth of knowledge.
At 48 I am ready for better health and to be the best me!
Heading off to explore the forums. Thanks again!

So hear is my latest update:
I have been SO busy with all of my appointments to get cleared for surgery.
I spent one day having 8 appts. lol. I have NEVER spent so much time in a hospital in my life!
Today I had my appt. with the bariatric therapist which went great. I have 4 classes to take in February along with a PT appt. and then it goes to insurance. It is all moving very fast. In the mean time I am starting to make some changes to help me move toward my new life style - not eating during meals, small bites, chewing each bite 500 times etc. They are small things, but they make me feel like I am working towards my goal since I won't have surgery until Summer.
Thanks for listening!

That is a great way to start. Make little changes and once they become a habit, make a few more. If you can make things a habit before the surgery, it will make it that much easier afterwards :)
