My name is Lisa. I am 53 years old and I've had a weight problem for most of my life. I decided to check into Bariatric surgery after years of failed diet attempts. I have completed all the requirements my insurance requires. The only thing I need is a chart audit and insurance approval. I'm just so anxious and nervous. Anything would be of help to me.

Hi Lisa. :) Sounds like you're well on your way. I hope you've been poking around the site and reading a bunch of posts, they should help a lot. Have you decided on which surgery you'll have?

If you have any specific questions, just ask.

Your feelings are normal. There are YouTube videos from people who have had the surgery. I HIGHLY recommend the book, 'How weight loss surgery really works." Written by Dr. Matthew Weiner; he's a bariatric surgeon; he has some videos on YouTube.
Good luck, and welcome.

I am new to the group. I had the full gastric bypass surgery. I have done pretty good but I did lose a lot of hair. That has slowed down. Now I have a lot of problems with kidney stones which I never had problems with before. What my question is, is this it has been about 12-15 years since my surgery I have gained back about 6 pounds and I still want to lose and get back on track. What is the best way to do this? Someone please help me.

Lisa you have got to have the right mind set or this will not work. It is a change of life. Although I have had a few problems I would do this all over again for sure.

Welcome to the group Lisa! It sounds like you have a great mindset going into this. And you are definitely at the point where nerves and anxiety kick into overdrive. Waiting for the insurance approval feels like it takes forever. But then you have to wait for the surgery to actually be scheduled and to start the pre-op diet (if your surgeon has one).

My recommendation is to find hobbies/activities to keep your mind busy. Color, walk, puzzles, crochet, read, whatever it is that keeps your mind calm and active will help you through this time. Keep taking it one day at a time and before you know it, you will be on the other side.

Good luck with your journey and keep us posted about when your surgery will be!

Hi Grannyk! Welcome to the group. We love getting veterans in here that have gone through so much and can provide great insight into different areas. I look forward to hearing more about your story as you post.

That is great that you are catching your regain before it gets out of control. For getting back on track, have you tried to do a pouch reset? Try starting from the beginning with liquids and slowly going through the stages again. This can help get you back on track with your eating habits (if they aren't where they used to be). You can also look into journaling your food (again, that is if you have stopped). I would take a look at what habits you exhibit now compared to what you were doing within the first several months after surgery. If you have stopped doing certain things, start them up again and see if that help resets your mind to get you back on track.

I wish you the best of luck!
