Hello everyone, my name is Tamayah Jenkins i am 18 years old I just turned 18 on March 20th I got the gastric sleeve when I was 16 years old and I’ve always wanted to join a supportive group and tell anyone and everyone about my journey and the obstacles that I had to over come with my process before and after the surgery I also want to tell people about the things that you may not know about walking into the whole process blinded I know I’m younger than people who normally get the surgery but if anyone wants to talk I’m definitely always ready to talk about my experience with my weight loss surgery thank you for the time!

Thank you, my recovery from the surgery was okay at the beginning and because I was so excited to get back to my regular life with my schooling and sports that was my motivation and since my surgery from the last time I was weighed I lost 115 pounds in a year

Welcome to the group! Congrats on the weight loss. Have you been able to maintain it? What do you think the most difficult part was during the weight loss part? My surgery will be in August or September, so I’m trying to learn all the things about post op life.

Thank you so much , I’ve definitely been able to maintain my weight from going up and down and that’s mainly because I have my support system keeping me afloat I have my cheer coaches , softball coaches, and in school personal trainers that keeps my head in the game the main thing is to stay active and remember all the training that you put your mind, body, and soul through during the time you were preparing your self for the actual surgery. The most difficult things I had to deal with was portion control like actually learning that you can literally eat only a hand full of food and not being sad because it’s mind over matter honesty like at the beginning I’m telling you I could have bussed my stomach right open and wouldn’t have cared because at least I had a burger but you have to stay under control and really know that you can’t eat as much as you did before the surgery that’s the hardest part. Also, you won’t like foods post op that you liked before like the thought of pizza makes me sick and I was dominos pizza queen before my surgery.

Hi Tamayah, so yes i would love to hear about your journey to a healthier life! Did you have have any bad experience? How did you stay hydrated i heard that i should try to drink a sip of water every 20 minutes after surgeryto get in 64 oz everyday? I a very fast eater so that is the hardest thing im trying to control.

I did have some bad experiences about 2 months later I was back in the hospital due to an ulcer that developed in my stomach and ended up having two seizures in the hospital due to my blood pressure dropping but other than that everything was great and as for staying hydrated depending on how much you drink now the sip every 20min is great and helps you work up to drinking bottles of water again you’ll ever be able to drink the same but it will get better. Also, try not to drink ice cold water it could cramp up your stomach try drinking room temperature water it’s way better for your stomach anyways. As for the fast eating I had my grandmother’s best friend teach me her style of eating and she chews every bite at least 32 times to make sure she isn’t over eating because the faster you eat your mind doesn’t know your eating so your not full in your mind so you think your still hungry but as you continue to eat your stomach will over flow and you will eventually throw up which in my experience was never fun

Wow, congratulations and thank you so much for joining our group, you're a true inspiration and we can all learn a lot from you. To have been through this as a teen is something I don't think we've seen in the group, at least not since I've been a member. Please continue to share, your experience and wisdom is so appreciated. :)

I love my new body lol since my surgery I’ve had so much energy it’s like I’m always drinking energy drinks but I’ve never had one in my life it’s amazing I still have some insecurities here and there but other than that I’m in love with my self
That's amazing Tamayah! You are the poster child of what this surgery can do for someone. :)
