I have hurdle after hurdle it feels like. I just got a call from my primary letting me know my ATL results was 245 which is extremely high. He said my surgeon wont do surgery if they are like that and is going to schedule me to see a GI specialist and an ultrasound. I am freaking out. I am so close to being scheduled and I don't want anything to get in the way.... crying so hard.... :(

Maybe you can take meds for a bit to get the ATL done then have the surgery done!

Do they think you have nonalcoholic cirrhosis? That is high, and I hope they can quickly identify the cause, so you can move closer to your goal.

I honestly am not sure. I wonder how It got to be so high. Is cirrhosis when numbers are that high? Do u know?
I’m really not sure. My ALT is 59 and normal is 35. I have low grade fatty liver, but when I don’t have alcohol and eat better (no fried foods etc) my level goes down. You’ll probably need a gastroenterologist to address such a high level. I know this is stressful, but remember to try and take things one step at a time. Once you’ve established a more solid baseline with a specialist, you’ll be on the right path. This does not mean the end of your weight loss journey, it’s just a hiccup, and hiccups always go away ;)

In my late 20s my liver levels were through the roof. Turns out I have a condition called hemochromatosis which means I have too much iron in my blood. In 2005 imaging showed multiple granular lesions covering my liver. They were perplexed so did a bioptsy and turns out my liver is covered in iron deposits. Around the same time, I was also diagnosed with a fatty liver because of my weight.

And as many of you know, I was an alcoholic for about 16 years, been sober 4 years this month. So if anyone can get past the liver clearances, I'm the proof it can happen, don't loose hope.

Oh thank you so much for your story. It does make me feel better! Did it set your surgery back at all or is it something that can be controlled using medicine?

It didn't set anything back. Since I had been being observed by a GI specialist for the condition for years (no meds), they probably just wanted the OK from him or my primary doc (who also follows my levels) that I'd be fine. Surgeon's office never even mentioned it to me.

Basically in 2005, once I had the imaging done and the biopsy, they knew what they were dealing with and no meds were necessary, just frequent blood-work.

My doctor just called and said I had a fatty liver. OMG I am so relieved!!!! I was so scared... I hope that doesnt dely my surgery but starting tomorrow I am going to strict into a diet.!!!
Does anyone know if this will delay my surgery if insurance approves it??

Not entirely sure, but I believe the 1-week pre-surgery diet restrictions are precisely to shrink the liver, to make the surgery simpler / safer. So at the very least, it's entirely treatable.

Hang in there!
