New here (Had my 1st appointment last week)

Hey guys, I’m new on here. I’ve been searching a few weeks for a good support group. I’ve been debating surgery for years now. I finally worked the courage up and met with a surgeon this past week. The doctor told me I’m a good candidate and the only thing I’ll regret it not having surgery done sooner. I had a emergency c section in 2017, a elective c section in 2019, and my gallbladder removed in Dec of 2019. I’ve heard many things about the recovery being hard and painful. Has anyone had similar surgeries I’ve already had to compare the pain to? I’ve also been told multiple things on how long the wait is until you have surgery. From the way the surgeon spoke after I have all my tests done and follow all the steps I need it’ll be in about 6months. I’m excited and nervous at the same time! I get bad anxiety and have a fear of anesthesia. Does anyone else get worked up over being put to sleep? My doctor also talked to me about the sleeve and gastric roux-en-y bypass. He told me it’s my decision but I think he was leaning more towards the bypass and told me I have potential to loose a lot of weight. How did you guys decide on what surgery was best for you? Aloha! I had the roux en y 1/27/20, because I was already suffering from acid reflux so doctor said sleeve wouldn't be good for me. I didn't like the thought of my old stomach sitting in there though lol
Congrats on making this decision. I definitely wish I'd done it sooner! Started the process at 211 lbs in May 2019. After working with nutritionist dropped to 204 by August, lost weight on liquid diet and was 191 for surgery, now at 4 months post op I'm 160.6.

I actually feel this way too! Hahaha! Like, what is it doing in there? Is it waiting for food? Is it lonely? Does it grumble? So many questions!

Wow! That’s great to hear. I also suffer from acid reflux. A lot of people love the sleeve but I was leaning more toward the roux en y also.

Hello! I’m on my starting out journey as well. I hope to have the bypass in August or September depending on insurance and scheduling. I started out wanting the sleeve, but changed my mind because of my family history with acid reflux and finding out I am prediabetic. Plus, if for some reason it needs to be reversed, the stomach is still there. I’m hoping to have my gallbladder removed during the surgery. I have had 2 c sections as well, and recovery from those wasn’t too bad, so as far as pain goes, I’m not too worried. I get anxious about anesthesia as well, but whenever I’ve had surgery in the past, they’ve given me something through the IV to help calm me down. Congratulations on your new journey as well! I had my gallbladder out in Dec of 19 and I think that pain was worse then my c section pain. I’m not to nervous about the pain either just anxious over anesthesia. They usually have to give me something to calm me down also! I hope your able to have your surgery in August/September and have your gallbladder out also. From the sound of my doctor I should be able to have mine done Nov/Dec (hopefully) I have horrible acid reflux also. I’m excited to be on here and we will follow our new journeys together!

I had a laparoscopy in 2001 for endometriosis and tubes tied in 2015. I’d say the biggest difference is that they use the gas to fill the abdomen so they can see what they’re doing. They do that for gallbladder and weight loss surgery. The gas leaving was more painful than the c sections, but I’m ready for it. I know that I’ll need to get up and walk, plus I’ll use rice bags on my shoulders to help with the pain. From what most people have said on the forums, the more you walk and move, the less the pain can be.

Yes, I’ve had the gas also and it was the worst part! Walking and moving definitely helped a lot.
