I see several posts about people looing hair after 5-6 months of surgery. Why? and what causes this at that point?
Does it grow back snd are you ssyimb we might have bold spots? It can happen with any surgery or trauma, not just bariatric. Your body focuses resources on healing, which has an effect on the hair growth cycle, and it takes a few months for it to end up falling out, but it partially depends on which growth phase the follicle was in when surgery occurred. We can tend to have a bit more because we have a drastic change in nutrients in addition to the surgery.
Hi Pink Julie, I just read your post. I'm just barely 1 yr out, as of last month July 22nd. I started losing my hair at 3 months, I mean Really losing it, handfuls. I literally freaked out. I had to cut my hair from it being past my waist, thick & beautiful, to the nape of my neck. It's Still falling out that you can see my scalp. I too, started using Olaplex shampoo/conditioner, but hair was still falling out. I take All my vitamins including Biotin, Flaxseed & still drinking my protein. I'm just feeling soooo frustrated & depressed about all of this going on. I'm learning to Accept my loose skin on my arms but my hair loss & Not losing more weight, is just getting to me.I’ve always had beautiful long blonde hair and I was really upset when it started falling out at around 4-6 months. I had 4 surgeries in 2 years (including RNY) and a lot of complications so it was not surprising really. I started taking biotin and using olaplex #4 and #5 shampoo and conditioner and I also had it cut to shoulder length. At just over a year out, it’s thick and healthy again now, with lots of regrowth, no bald patches here![]()
I’m sorry Olaplex didn’t work for you, but I would encourage you to keep trying different things. We all have different backgrounds and I had been through a really rough 3 years, which I’m sure contributed to my hair loss. On a positive note, you are looking amazing, so congratulations on your weight loss! Good luck and I hope you find something that works xHi Pink Julie, I just read your post.
